Help me solve this mystery

Im doing sog method putting rooted clones directly into flowering, but my 7in clones stretch to about 20in. by the second week and keep stretching. As if im using 7watt cfls lol.
I have a 5x5 area under a 1000watt hps about 15in away from the plants
temps are 74-80 im using hydroton rocks and water 4x during lights on. the dark time is almost 100% dark. ppm i start off at about 500 and work my way up.

anyone can think of anyreason why they stretch?
i will be forever in your debt! if i could or if you can figure out a way ill give you 25% of my harvest from my 40 plants. THanks everybody

nobody know any reason for stretching besides low light? =(

'Almost' is probably not good enough. Any light leaks need to be remedied.
Most plants will initiate a final growth/stretch phase when put into flowering. Once the buds are forming, growth will slow down considerably. That 15" distance from the light sounds fine...IMHO.
