Hey guys, I'm starting 5 seedlings under a T5 FL in a heated seedling flat. They are growing quite tall in just 5 days, is this normal? The light is about 2" off the top of the dome. should it be closer? Or should I turn on the HPS? If so how close?

Thanks guys..

get the dome off and a small fan blowing on those things to toughen up the stems. I doubt you have the right spectrum of bulb there (6500 K) and enough tubes. You better get the HPS on them as close as you can without overheating them about 12-14 inches away.

I think it is time to take that dome off, and just spray the plants threw out the day. And lower the lights some, And all should be GREAT, Set up looks nice

Thanks Guys, I guess I should get them in to the bigger rockwool too?
I've got the light on 24hrs right now, should I switch it to 18/6 now too?

Thanks for the help guys!

I would change light to 18/6 and transplant them into what ever size pot u want. and then water them a bit and HAPPY GROWING MAN

that same thing happened to me when i first started with seeds i would transplant put lights closer with a fan on a low low setting and steak them with a toothpick and twist tie for a while when mine looked like this i went to move them and a couple fell over and broke lol hope this helps

Lol, I've pulled them out. Put them in large rockwool cubes, watered them and put the 400w on them.. 14" was way to close temp was at 90F+!!, they were starting to droop. So I raised the light to about 3ft. Temp is holding at 83f now. They straightened up quick and are doing fine now.. I just hope it doesn't get to cold for them at night.. I will most likely leave them on a 24 hr schedule at least one more day, just to let them get a bit bigger before they spend the night cold..

What kind of night time temps are you talking about?

Yup, they are all free now.. LIghts just went out. they will come back on in the morning. They have been taken out of the seedling flat, placed in to large rockwoll cubes and put under the HPS.. Hope they will be alright.. They look kinda young to me to be under the HPS..

Do you think they are ready for the HPS? I've got the HPS over them (at 24") and a fan gently on them..

Just keep the lamp as far away as you can at this stage. I myself don't use large lamps until they are a few weeks old. I use a shop light with 2 40 watt cool white on seedlings, I put it right down on them. I have never used a t5, does that get hot? If not you can put that right on top of them too.

No it doesn't get hot, but it's just 1 23w CW.. It's what made them stretch out to begin with.
