I just transplanted seven of my plants yesterday from a 1.75 gallon container to a 4.4 gallon container. No real signs of stress. I am growing indoors in a 4 x 4, using LED lights. I am in my 3rd to 4th week vegetation. Do you recommend to “top” in the plant now or wait a couple days after just repotting a plant. It has at least 4 nodes. Or should i wait a few days??

That's a tight squeeze in a 4x4 with 7 plants. I might consider taking like 4 or 5 of the heathiest and shit can the rest.

Anyway, why top? (I can hear the screaming now :) )

Is it because of height? Don't worry about that, especially under LED, and plants above 5' are rare indoors.

More bud? Maybe, but that was never the case in my experience actually.

One thing I hated about topping was the shock effect on the plant, because when you top you are slowing the plant down for a around a week, so an 8 week plant just became a 9 week plant.

For what?

I've done them all, snipping, trimming, mainlining (total waste), fim, fip, etc, and now I just let them grow.

Bigger bud, bigger colas, faster finish, so unless height is an issue, let the plant grow on it's own.

This is a cola that will weigh in at around 2 oz dry and you will never get that on a topped plant.IMG_20190319_114302019_HDR.jpg

It's also a pain in the ass, but if you decide to do it, I would do it at 3 weeks to give it time to heal before you bloom it.

I top every plant I grow, due to height restrictions of my grow box. They are definitely slowed down by a week or two, so it's not something for the impatient grower, for sure. I second you on the diminished yield, especially if you create a true manifold from 2 growth tips. You can grow some huge colas though.

I feel as long as you leave them with a solid canopy, you'll do alright with topping.

Yeah I'd definitely wait a few days...let the ladies get settled into their new home before introducing new trauma. I think that the whole point of topping is to help eliminate the 'christmas tree' structure that they naturally take on in an effort to get more than just 1 top cola getting intense direct light. Outside of the auxins, that's a big part of why un-topped plants have that one big main cola, because it is at the top of the plant and recieving the most intense light. Topping is meant to create multiple tops all at even heights, recieving the same amount of light as say 1 dominant top on an un-topped plant.

I love that tennis ball plant, nice job!
I played with a LOT of plants, like when I went thru my bonsai stage and manicured the shit out of them, and they were the prettiest plants on the block, but if I could get 2 zips on a plant, I was lucky.
Now, no cutting or topping I get 4 oz average dry weight.
Did you ever let your plants just grow, without fucking with them?
You should experiment, and see what a difference it makes.

As far as height restrictions are concerned, simply bend the plant. I've grown 5' - 6' tall plants in a 8' high area (not including lights) and had to bend the fuck out of them (HST), but it worked.
But, do what you feel is right, but if I was you and like to experiment (that's what it should be all about), try 1 plant and let it go before you die.
You probably will be surprised. :)

If you dont have a plant limit, topping is a growth slower for almost any plant. Topping, training, manifolding are all techniques basically aimed at growing multiple colas with the same root structure. If you are growing less than 1 plant per sq foot topping is just going to spread them into each other. If you dont have plant limit and have 7 females why not just let them grow straight up?

Yeah, the only plants I ever let "just grow" were from my first grow ever. It was a very unsuccessful/ harvested too early grow, however, I did enjoy the natural structure of the un-edited plant.ill definitely give it another try with my next growth at I have coming up in about a month. Plant on running about 6, 1-2 week vegged plants and keeping them small by flowering so early. These I'll let do they're thing! No beheadings.
My height restrictions are a little more restrictive than 5-6' plants in an 8 foot high box. My box is about 3 feet tall, and where my light hangs it leaves me with about 8 inches of space to the plants. So in my case, my topping and lst do the trick.
I'll be growing some all natural monsters when I get the space! 1
