Please, to those of you who grow outdoors and might be having problems with deer, or even in the case of smaller mammals: don't go the route of lethal traps or poisons. I urge my fellow cannabis growers to be somewhat considerate and respectful of the environment they grow in. This includes being considerate of the animals that call the place home; from deer to mice, they were there first.
Not only are these methods of control inhumane and ethically questionable; they just aren't very effective. Especially if you're putting out mouse traps and rodent poisons when your problem is actually deer. In which case, there are plenty of options such as those already recommended: urine or human waste-based repellents, camouflaged fencing, sound/light emitting devices. Also, the deer and other animals go after the freshest, most tender and lush vegetation in the vicinity. Maybe that ends up being your cannabis plants, but it doesn't have to be. You could easily plant other things a bit further away, but in proximity to your pot plants. For example: carrots, lettuce, green beans, sunflower, clover, tulips, geraniums, etc.
You could also bring some oat/grain feed and/or ordinary wild bird seed mix for the rodents and lagomorphs to lessen the odds of them eating your plants.
robdogg, I would be more worried about the negative karma you would be inflicting upon yourself by attempting to seek 'revenge' on some defenseless animal that most likely had nothing to do with your plant being eaten.
Mother nature provides this wondrous, magnificent plant- which we selfishly plot to grow for our own personal gratification and enrichment. It can undoubtedly attract a slew of critters besides just people, and for good reason. Unfortunately it will potentially be looked upon by these critters as a delicious source of food, which they happen to depend on to survive. After all, we have for the most part seized their environment from them; confining these animals to smaller territories in which to search for edible vegetation. On top of this, we have upset the balance of nature and negatively affected wildlife in various other ways. I think the least we can do is truly embrace our plants and the nature which provides for them by showing respect and appreciation for it and all of the little, living things that make it whole.
The attitude some of you are expressing towards those creatures you presume to be insignificant is utterly disgraceful.
