tell your friend to go drink water only ,no food, for 2 weeks with no nutrients and see how he feel.

if it's hydroponic that means no soil, and the roots suck up or take the minerals out of the soil. so no.. it will not be possible

they will survive for a little while with no nutes, but they will slowly be eating their selves to the death.

also when there are no nutes in the water, it doesnt matter much what the ph is- it could be 4.5 or 9.5(?).

you must supply nutes..... i got on plain water for three weeks more like two when the seeds first crack .any longer than that the plant starts suffering from deffeciencies and this stunts the growth.and can eventually kill the seedlings.... just try for yourselfcrack a seed in a piece of rockwool and sit it ina shallow bowl of water and put it in a sunny window ans see how lon it will survive my guess is 3 to 4 weeks tops.

You leave it soaking in a bowl of water, and I bet it won't get that far.

the rockwool will hold the perfect amount of water if you just put it in about an inch or two . a half a slab of rock wool fits perfect in a cheap target kitty litter pan i have grown plenty using those and pouring fresh water in when the pan got empty that is sitting in a bowl of water basically. what about bubblers they sit roots in water... as long as the roots can get oxgen sitting in water is not a problem....no nutes thats the problem...
