Help with bush management in 2x2

I have been growing 3 plants in a 2x2 and have recently had to move one out of the tent due to them taking over every space of the tent.

I’m now down to 2 plants in 12L fabric pots. These have been topped and defoliated but since flipping a couple of days ago have pretty much taken over. I have tied a few of the branches back to get an even canopy but being so early into flower I’m concerned I’m going to completely run out of room soon.
The phenotypes are quite different on these two even though they’re both the same strain, and am wondering if I should axe the weaker looking of the two and re pot from a 12L to 20L of the better looking.

What would be the best suggestion In terms of management moving forward. Just keep one in a larger pot? Keep both and defoliate/lollipop?

This is one auto in a 2x2, height was suddenly an emergancy so I been there but you have much much time to control your height.

Get 4” net and 6” net and start super cropping nodes 90 degrees to keep canopy right where you want it, as long as possible.

You have two opportunities to achieve this each layer net and from stretch to mid or end phase of mid flower.

This is a 5’ tent and a 3’ plant. No more light space allowed and growing a couple inches into the light.

Good luck!

The only way to grow 3 plants in a 2x2 is to root clones and flip them immediately no veg time. Trim to maybe 4 branches per plant at the very most. Otherwise you're gona have some.major problems. Sometimes less is actually more. A 2x2 is enough room for 1 small/med size plant.

I grow in a 2x2. Two plants will be just fine. No problem at all. Just make sure you're getting good air exchange. I've actully got 3 plants going right now but probably flipped mine a week earlier than you.

EDIT: for comparison the tallest bud in that picture is 533mm

Plants are 370mm from the top of the pots. I can move the lights up by another 100mm. Overall height from pot to highest light position is 1m, so I have about 600mm left
Depending on strain of course, it should be good if the indica traits dominate the node spacing.

If it is lanky enough, usually the nodes cropped at 90degrees will shoot out new nodes that can become their own cola or at least properly exposed to light and should have an even canopy.

Each layer of the two nets will help keep canopy within 2 feet, escpecially if it is a short bushy growing gal.

You bend over the nodes that have dominant growth over the majority of the buds or node sites in canopy.

Weaving them through the net and this will help keep canopy generally even like you saw with mine but with less colas but more plants.

2x2 is a shotty set of space to work with, even if it was wider. Most say 1 plant is best and my photo shows why, it is plenty.

You may have empty spots with two or 3 plants. 4 mini plants can do the same kind of frow as 1.

Most yield about 5-8oz in a 2x2 no matter how you do it for a moderate skilled grower.

I'm growing 4 plants (2x Screwdriver OG, 1x Aloha OG and 1x Pumpkin Spice) in a 2x2x6 under a viparspectra xs1500 (153w actual draw). With 4 plants in a 2x2 it's best to adopt a SOG approach. I use only feminized photo seeds from Sensi and grow them in 9.2 liter Air-pots. Bio Bizz light for soil and the Canna Terra line of nutrients.
I veg everything out until I have 6 sets of nodes, this will generally fill up the entire space, from wall to wall. At this point I ALWAYS top between the 5th and 6th nodes then give them 2 or 3 days to recover. Once recovered from topping I will defoliate and thin things out a bit making room for light to access flower sites and let it recover again for 2 days.
After everything is happy from the topping and defoliation I switch to 12/12. With 3 strains it can be a bit tricky but I have a good handle on it. First and foremost when you're in a 2x2 SOG situation it's best that your plants remain unattached from your grow environment so that they can be easily moved in and out of the grow space, so you dont want to be tying things down to your tent frame or anything like that. (Air-pots are awesome for this, all those holes give you a perfect spot to attatch any LST things to) I purchased a 2x2 garden tray with a 3 inch rim. Since I use Air-pots watering is best done outside of my tent. I move them into the tray to water them, which also gives me a chance to inspect them for any issues. This also allows me to catch the runoff water for PPM and PH testing. As far as canopy is concerned of course there will be variations in size and height. I have an assortment of various sized cheap planters that I use to elevate any thing that needs to be brought up to canopy level and LST anything else attaching it to the Air-pot itself.
I am currently at 19 days from seed.
This is my very first post here and I would love to share this current grow with you all. I will take pics and start a new thread on Tuesday for those that may be interested.

Happy Growing!
