~~ help with closet growroom venting

Ok i'm getting ready to flower, so i'm opening up the other side of my closet. I think i'm going to get a 600w HPS, reflector has 6in flanges going right across bulb and it's glass sealed.

I don't have any kind of 'real' ventilation setup because i hadn't needed it yet. Since i do now, i took out the small light fixture in there, and now have a 4in hole to the attic. This is the only exhaust location i will have because i'm going to seal off the closet with mylar. Also i'm going to make a carbon filter and have a 6in inline fan suck it out into the attic via the 4in hole, but it will only fit on one side. Well that's as far as i got in my head at least..

Any ideas for keeping the 600w cool & letting fresh air in? How many watts can i pull from one set of power outlets usually?

Soon after i move plants to flowering i'd like to seal off the other side and use it for vegging again, could i split the intake to both sides, split exhaust too maybe, ideas? I'm wanting to makethe whole thing lightproof.. or am i living in a dream world here? with just a 4 in exhaust.. i fear i may only flower in there now..

Any pointers would help me out a lot! I've been racking my brain trying to figure things out, what would you do?

pics of the current setup can be found in my journal, they're of the right side w/the 400w mh, which is sitting on a shelf

(exhaust is through the ceiling the rectangle below it is a small separator and shelf support, comes out about 3ft)

closet is 9' x 3.5' x 7'
the intake fan will be mounted on the bottom of a 6.5in long door height board which will be placed in the doorway, the closet doors are suspended on tracks from above and slide one infront of the other

hope this made sense.. :bigjoint:

Not really possible to open it up anymore. It's against the front wall above door, besides there's a beam or something that would be in the way anyway

well i finished constructing/cleaning the flowering side of the closet, still haven't figured out my venting issues yet though, maybe when i get all the pieces together it'll just make sense :bigjoint:

throw a y duct fitting at the exauhst...run the scrubber into one end and the light vent to the other...hook exauhst fan up on the end in attic to pull through scrubber and light...put another y adapter at intake..leave one end open as passive and run other end to light.....hope this makes sense and helps...and as far as watts on an outlet, you want to figure out how may amps you are pulling with your equipment and how many amps your circuit can hold...most bedroom outlets are 15 amps. but you only want to pull around 13 so you dont overload...there is formula to figure out how many amps you are pulling from your watt usage...youll need to google it as i dont know it offhand...

nicks idea is great. It might be a bit more over kill, it would isolate the cooling on the light and exhaust more efficiently.
If I'm reading your plans correctly, You have a 6 inch active intake? That 4 inch hole would work nicely for a 4 inch flexi duct. You can put a flange up there or run the hose straight out to the attic or dump site. You spec a 6 inch fan out. This doesn't necessarily need to be 6 inches. You will have to convert down to the 4 inch exit hole unless you make it bigger.

Your volume is pretty small. Based on your specs, the normally recommend fan output would be 44cfm. I have the 170 cfm fan set up with the filter on it with a space larger than yours, and as of this time have yet needed to cool my lights. In fact I have to run a heater right now in my room. Depends on your input air temp. Perhaps try this easier setup, see what the temps are. If you still aren't exchanging air fast enough, then you can invest a bit more on the wyes as the above poster talked about to make even more efficient setup.
Good luck.
I understand also the frustrations with sometimes getting no responses on your thread. But please be more respectful on here if you can do so. For instance you could take the time while waiting for a response on here to clean up that mess around the desk there.

venting,

If I may suggest........you are exhausting into your attic, good. you have a 4" hole to work with, fine!, I can only assume you are concerned with the heat accumulating in the space (by space, I mean the are you are growing marijuana) I won't tell you how to operate your shit, but..

If this were my space....
I would invest in a good fan. Ideally, I would install it in the attic and run a duct from the fan (4" as per you conditions) to the space and get the duct as close to the light(s) as possible in order to exhaust the heat right at the source. The ammount of air you can draw out of the space will be solely determined by the fan you choose. if you choose a large fan, (say 500 cfm) it will most likely have an inlet larger than 4".(maybe 6" or even 8") you can get a reducer to connect to a 4" duct, at home depot, or at least a 4"- 6" and a to a 6" - 8" or if you are desperate, you can duct tape a 4" duct to an 8" fan inlet. ( I do not recommend this, though if you do, please send a picture), if this is inadequate, you will need a larger fan. Please understand, using a high powered fan on a small duct inlet will produce noise. it will draw air in faster, creating more friction, thus more noise. If you are trying to keep stealth.......

as for the cool air inlet.... If you suck air out of a space and dump it into your attic, air from your room (say bedroom)will find a way into the space.

in conclusion.. get hot air out. you should be okay
