help with mounting my light?

ive got to mount my 18 lb 400 W MH in this small room i have. the ceiling is around 4 feet high and is slanted on around a 30° angle. problem is, i cant drill into the ceiling and mount the light with metal sleeve anchors. Are there any ways you guys know of suspending my light from the ceiling? attached is a picture of the light.

thanks ! :leaf:

build a wooden or metal frame to suspend it from. I started many years back with 1 of those carpark/security lights , I soon got rid due to the wieght as it's ballast is built in. good luck

the ceiling isnt steel.. its a normal wall but its an old room so even on the strongest drill setting it stop after like a centimetre. im not sure why.
and yep. its a weird light, its an all in one MH. the ballast is inside it and the bulb and reflector. its just got one handle that you can see in the picture.

My very first HP light was like that too, scrounged from a parking lot light rebuild where I worked.

I actually made a hood out of Hardware store obtained sheet metal, then used the socket and the guts of the unit and made it remote ballast with a piece of extension cord.

That way I didn't have to hang that giant chunk of metal above my plants.

A floor standing frame as already mentioned would work too.

Use 2X4's like someone already said to build a frame. Better yet, find some 1 inch CONDUIT and some elbow and built an even better frame to hang this bitch up........

how about if you can find the studs in the ceiling and get some of those eye bolts that are self taping and just screw them into the studs.. i'm sure it will be hard to get them into the wall like you said, but they will also be hard to get out as well..
you could always try and put the eye bolts right into the drill and use the drill to get them into the wall.. but i'm not sure how well this will work as you have said that its damn hard to drill through the ceiling..
just a thought..

plaster is hard-

get a masonry drill bit. try to find the studs and anchor into them, although the lathe behind the plaster is strong enough. use toggle bolts if you don't anchor into the stud(member).
