Don't switch anything serious with those things. if you are lucky, it may switch max 60w cfl/fluoro. If not then any ballasted startup is too much. I got sent three instead Graslinn timers. I burnt them out one after another (within 3 days, spoiling the start of flowering), and sent them back to the distributor on receipt of the genuine article.

youll probly have to check out the amperage rating of ya light and im not sure if its like a hid ballast or not but find out weither it uses more amps at start up then it actually does when running. Id say it should be fine with that light as contacts in them timers would be rated to a 10 or 15 Amp load.

If u were running a hid id say definately get another timer, perhaps some other people with cfl will come along soon with a reply for you.

Cheers

I think its the start up. Graslinn GRASP24 are rated for 60watt fluoro/cfl. Many, many timers are not, even immersion timers (high amperage) and have specific exeptions. I hope yours will be OK. They break reasonably quickly so you will know soon!

it is good to be safe - but i wouldn't worry too much. Touch the wires and the timer - if they are hot then you have a problem. otherwise the circuit should trip before something really bad happens.

Fluoros/CFL will fuck 'em if the timer isn't rated for them. They do not get hot, they just go open circuit. Fact. 5 timers to my credit before I started checking, £35-$70 all told:cry:

Well you have two people saying you should be fine - one person saying watch out and another that isn't sure.

if it will put your mind at ease - i'd recommend you go buy a timer that has a high rating so you can relax (you can use the timer you already have for something else).

whats an high rating...

i've been saying it supports 2300 WATTS !!!!

Just rang up my friend ( electrician ) he said even if self balast it wouldnt matter, then he added... Why the fuck would the sell em then ?

I was like.... ...... huh ..... yeah guess so ...

^^
