Ok seeds are on the way already.im testing out all my equipment, and im having problems with my fan, i have a 20inch box fan with 3 speeds.it sounds like and airplane taking off, and im trying to make this super stealth.

how can i reduce noise on my fan without ruining the performance?

i need all the help i can get, seeds should be here in a couple of days so i need to get this taken care of before they arive.all suggestions are greatlly appreciated

you could also but one of those things that allows you to slow down and speed up your fan, kinda like a light switch dimmer

it sounds like the fan might be too big anyway
cause if you are worried about the sound of the fan and you want a really stealth set up then that means you are worried about the people where ever you are growing and your grow room or closet or whatever cant be too big......so the 20 in fan might be taking up too much room and possibly be too much on your plants.....
therefore you should buy a smaller quieter fan.......
or am i looking too much into it.....maybe whateves dude:bigjoint:
good luck

your correct about the stealth part. i dont want anyone to know in my household. its up in the attic. its superrrr hot up there. so i got the 20 inch fan for the extra support being so hot in there i was afraid my plants are going to die. the fan comes with 3 speeds. on the lowest speed i think i can get away with it.

another question. it has 3 speeds. on speed 3 its tooo damn loud. speed 2 its bareable but i can still hear it. speed 1 i can manage to get away with it. but this is my problem. i ran the fan for about a hour and a half on speed 2 when no one was home. it made a noticeable noise but i wanted to check my temps. the temps read 105 with speed 2. if i drop down to speed 1 so no one can hear me then im sure it will get much hotter. im getting another fan in there asap. i wanted to run the 20 inch fan at higher speed. is there a cheap way of filtering the sound and vibration

Without an intake and exhaust in your attic, I don't think you'll have much luck with your temps, even on speed 3. sorry

i have exhuast in my tent. are you saying to get an extra intake and exhuast to vent my attic or are you referring to my tent?

ya honestly im runnin 2000 watts and i have a pretty powerful intake fan and thats not even close enough to cool my room down, you might wanna think about a a/c unit or even a portable one.

if a 20 inch box fan sounds like a jet in the attic. imagine a portable ac unit. not only am i scared it would fall threw the ceiling but the noise factor is something to think about. this project has to be stealth.

then you might wanna think about growing somewhere else, cause attics get very very hot on their own even without lights up there. what type of lighting are you gonna use? the only thing that might work and not emmit alot of heat is flo's

Yeah your tent has intake but it just intakes hot attic air... The intake needs to be intaking cooler air and the exhaust has to lead it away from the intake. Attics just get way too hot in the summer generally.

get a box for it, or try a speed controller?
i was reading on that. a box with dynamat. my problems with that are its going to take up too much room in my tent which i need all the space i can get. + i would be pushing all that hott air around instead of cold air.

the attic is the only place in the house where no one goes into. im using fluro's i only had one fluro on at the time i was checking temps. 80 watts

well the 20 inch fan has no fresh air. its just sitting in the tent blowing air around.as i think about it i didnt have my exhuast runing hot air out. i just had the light and the fan on at the same time. i just put it in there to get a estimate on the temps.im going to try runing the exhuast to push outside(my exhuast is only 50cfm)idk how much thats going to help or make a difference.+ i have to get fresh air in there rite? what if i make a intake coming from outside. i will buy 4" inch ducting and throw a in-line booster fan in there to suck up air from outside into my tent. would that create cold air? or am i still pushing hot air around?

if your only using flo's then your temps might be alright, but now you have to think about fresh air and co2. If you can't bring in fresh air from outside then you might wanna think about getting a co2 injection system
