..and then show male characteristics or do they start as males with female characteristics or both? Also, is there a window when the plants are more susceptible to turning? When would a female be in the clear of growing balls?

When you stress them, then they are susceptible.
She would be in clear, when the weather is ideal, and there are no problems.

They begin as males. Whatever the nature of the stress that caused the hermaphroditism will result in male characteristics. There is not a clear cut dry timeframe when it can occur it just happens.

That makes no sense. A hermie is a hermaphrodite. In all my years, I haven't ever heard of a male going female. It's always female going male, which is a hermie. If it started off as a male it was going to be a male, not a hermie.

Thanks guys, I started with 5 seedlings and i had one confirmed male. I put another one outside after 4 weeks and it hasnt shown any size of sex (even though its approaching 3 ft. in height (the seasons not right yet here I guess). The 3 I left indoors have shown a couple of hairs here snd there but i guess im not out of the water yet

sum are talkin when they should be listening and learning

you always get ananswers not always agood or truthful answer but an answer
after the end of my second year iwas so glad i did not need to ask questions anymore

Yes male plants can and have grown female flowers, even possible to pollinate but MOST hermaphrodites of this type are sterile so the pollen might as well be talcum for baby's bum!

The I represent The Bobo mansion, and the I is a true Edwards descendant.

i was informed at my other site more true breeders and testers
there
anyway i was informed a male forced to herm will bring more female higher percentage
but a herm male from the jump will bring only herms

almost like
a female plant forced to herm her pollen brings femed seeds
but a herms pollen brings herms

A hermaphrodite is a plant or animal that has both sexes showin. (really simplified)

So in the world of hemp, a plant can start either way and later change, but to our needs you never hear of the male that goes the other way.
If a grower sees a male it will usually be yanked, and only a breeder might see this if they keep a male for longer than necessary to get pollen, and if it is found, it shouldn't be used for breeding.

Your concern as a grower are the females that grow balls, and most of the time this will occur between wks 4-6 (for an 8-9 wk strain) but can happen anytime.

I believe that genetics play the biggest role in hermi likelihood. With some strains you leave a door cracked once and you have balls, others won't change sides no matter how stupid you the grower are. (I prefer these strains myself)
