Hey-How do You empty your reservoir?

I went through 3 cast iron pumps, now I'm using the feed line, but I takes an hour.

Flood table is on the floor, so no gravity.

OK I have done that. But what amount are you draining?

I've got 70 gallons and a 15 gallon vac-

How then do you empty the vac? :)

My res holds 28 gallons of nutes and I use a sump pump//transfer pump with Flexilla hoses. The pump is about $50 on Amazon and will pump 330 gallons per hour.

Plumb a cheap Intek pool filter in with their valves. 100+ gallons out the window or door in about 15 minutes. LOL.

I use a submersible pump with appropriate length hose atached to it.
Good for filling and draining, just flip it round so the pump is in the bath tub or the rez accordingly.
You'll still be left with an inch or two of water in the rez, due to the height of the pump, but thats easy enough to deal with as it will then be light enough to carry.

Guess most of you are in the US but just pick a pump with the flow rate you require... I find the slowest/cheapest one at 600L per hour, is fast enough personally.

What happened to the iron pumps?
I already had this so I use it to water the lawn with the run-off.

This one won't take an hour, it comes with a big hose. :wink:

Expensive though, my sumersible pump can drain 125 litres in about 25mins. And only cost £15.
the 2000 litres an hour version is only a bit more at £24.

Plus about another 15 for 2x5m tubing and a connector as I needed tubing more like 10m.

I have 36 gallon in my rez and I pump it into a separate container and use it to water my house plants.

I used the same pump in my reservoir already to pump nutes. I had a second hose that ran to the basement floor drain. When I needed to change the res I just swapped the hoses and ran the pump. It only took like 20 minutes and it was done. Then I had a hose for fresh water to refill the res after.

That's basically what I do, I have a dedicated seperate pump/hose.. not normaly attached to the 'system'
longer hose as it has to reach to the bath tub/ sink/ toilet in a different room. Slightly more powerfull pump as it has to push a lot of water and I don't want it to take forever, but not so fast it gets outa control, lol!
I just reverse the apperatus depending if i'm filling or draining.
