Hey Sticky: How about a thread on fighting fungas attacks?

I've been under attack by an unidentified fungas for my last three grows. I didn't realize that it was a fungas that was affecting my plants as the symptoms where remarkably like nute burn, or cal/mag defficiancy, or any number of other causes. After posting my initial photos on the help forum, the replys mostly centered around deficiancies or other causes, not fungas attack. I've come to realize that many are unaware of the many different symptoms and 'cures' for these insidious organisms that play such havoc with our grows. In my limited research into this I have found that there are over 1000 different varieties of fungi and molds that can affect your crop. I know that most are familiar with the common and obvious Powder Mildew, and of coarse the infamouus 'Bud Rot' that everyone has come up against, but there are many more that can attack and destroy our crops as well. What has brought this to my attention was an attack of some variety of 'Rust' which can be caused by any number of different organisms. And my battle to overcome this.White Rhino_2.JPGThe picture shows the begining of an attack on my young white rhino. Sorry, I do not have pictures of a more advanced infestation to show. The symptoms would show up on the bottommost fan leaves first, and gradually work its way up the plant, mostly attacking the oldest leaves first. And will, if left untreated, comp;etely decimate the plant. I had (7) of the THC Bomb that had reached a height of around 3 ft. in flower and where consumed with this scourge. I had no idea what was happening. I blamed nuteriants, bad soil, too high or too low of temps. I was grasping at straws and eventually had to pull and destroy my babies when they where around a month from what would have been a harvest, as the buds where not developing and my plants where dieing. Even if I had let them go to term the amount of smoke I could have got off the plants didn't justify the cost of keeping the lights lit. I completely cleaned my grow room and flower room with bleachwater and soap, twice. And Bombed with Dr. Doom. I got brand new soil, as I figured maybe it was a soil born problem. I put up new air intake filters as well. I did everything I could to combat this thing that was attacking my plants. I was fanatical about cleanliness. And still it returned on my next grow!!! I was desperate and ready to say the hell with it and quit growing,.I eventually bought some Seranade and started treating my plants several times a week. Drenching them completely and letting some run off into the soil. I also removed any leaves that started to show brown, rusty sposts, or any other sign of malidy. I tossed any young plants that had it on too many leaves too remove without leaving them bare.Happily I think I am on the road to recovery now, and realize that I will have to keep treating my plants on a regular basis forever, as this is apparently some kind of fangas/mold that is either common to the area and can't be completely eradicated, or can not be completely killed off. The point is, I could find very little help in the various forums on which I monitor. There does not seem to be much in the way of info that is geared toward the unscientific growers amoung us, like me, in the identification of these problems. The research I did was either too complex for my limited abilities, and therefor pretty useless, or so vague as to leave me with more questions than answers. I think that if we have a forum on fighting bugs, why not one on fighting the various molds and diseases that afflict our plants as well? (With lots of PICTURES ) . I found that the hard part is not fighting this borg, but in identifying it in the first place. Looking at the pictures, most people did not imediately see this as an infestation, but rather as a problem with nutraints, soil, lighting, etc.. etc..as did I. Just my 2 cents worth, for what thats worth.
