Hi all! Prepping for my first grow (WOHOO!) What matters most getting ready?

First off Hello to all! There is tons of great info here but I'm not able to find a topic on this.
I've not grown anything since way back (a garden then, no reefer) and I'm about to get started on this adventure. What's the most important things to do before popping my beans?
I'd like to grow in organic and I've got the space for big pots. Can you grow organic hydro? I've heard yields are better in hydro but that the smoke quality is better from organic soil, do people combine the two? I've got an led and a hps light already.

Definitely right, KISS overthinking is the growers bane, my first grow I just left it and it was amazing since then I've thought I've known what I'm doing and screwed up big style.

I would say the most important thing is keeping it a simple setup and taking it one step at a time. Keep in mind that waiting and doing nothing really is the daily norm.

dont worry about yields at first. just learn to grow healthy plants. before you know it you will have more herb than you know what to do with.

my recommendation is to spend the money up front on a quality pre mixed supersoil from BAS, Roots Organics, or some other known brand. then u don't have to bother with bottles or anything. just stick them in the pots and water them as needed.

I have been growing for a while but just made the upgrade to some Earthboxes to simplify things even more. haven't used them yet but lots of good info in the SIPS thread. this would eliminate the guesswork of when to water since the plants water themselves. all you need to do is top off the res w plain water. There are other brands like Growbox, Octopot etc. Just recommending this as a worthwhile investment bc over or under watering are the 2 biggest mistakes / learning curve to the whole process.

What would you all term simple? Someone told me to 'grow the microbes' and that the plant would follow. Anyone have an expansion for that? What kind of microbes are good to have? I've heard of mycoryzoral (spelling)but I've got nothing for what it means past some bacteria.

I was aiming to go organic, you say Ican use the roots organics and just that? no additives?

I use roots organic and you will need amendments. It will not make it through an entire grow. Depending on your country will depend on your amendment choices.

Well the most important thing is to have all the correct equipment to set yourself up for success. If you want to grow hydro here is my list for 1-2 plants:

2 or 3 five gal buckets
1 oscillating fan
1 led grow light (1000-1500 replacement watts = about 150 actual watts)
Air pump (2 output)
2 large air stones
Plant nutrients
Cal/mag supplement (depends on nutes)
PH up/down
TDS/PPM measuring tool
PH measuring tool
1/4 in poly or nylon tubing (5-10ft)
Net pot lid 3-6 inches
Hydroton (clay pebbles)
Pool shock or beneficial microbes
Extension cord
Measuring pipette (ml)
Power strip with timing/ always on options
Seeds or clones
2x2 grow tent or mylar

I've done all types of grows and hydro (in my opinion) outperforms soil everytime. Good luck!
