ok even though i'm hardcore on doing it my way ibroke down and bought a light sunleaves mini two-way 400w and its great i got a fairly good deal and it came with a lens i was wondering if anyone had any experience with modding an air system onto a hood like this or would it be better to take it all apart and locate the ballast remotely and pirate reflector parts or make my own the batwing style seem to work well i would also like to know if anyone has experience with building a diffuser for a bulb like this they are supposed to eliminate the super hot spot dirrectly under the bulb allowing closer placement to plants? anyway here's the lighthttp://www.4hydro.com/lighting/twoWayMini.htm

any input on this would be great thanx

ok so alot of lights come with detachable plates that can be switched out with round duct adapters http://homeharvest.com/climatecontrolductingadaptors.htm
so i understand the concept of how and why and with that being said my question is does anyone have any experience with modding a hood in this way and how does it perform compared to cool tube style and /or a hood that is intended for venting

thanx

I have a have a sunsystem mini 250w hood+ballast setup that I modded to be air cooled. What I didn't have was a lens. I'm not sure how well I would have pulled the hot air out that way but I just used a hole saw from home depot (gotta be the ones made for metal) that is just a little bigger than 3 inches.

I cut a hole in the end and drilled 4 holes to support a 92mm PC type fan (it's a 70 CFM from a server). I figured I could also get a 3" duct starter from one of the hardware stores and make a flange from that if I wanted to duct it.

Like I said a lense may not be a good idea if you can't bring in fresh air. If you CAN bring in fresh air then it'd be great.

the setup im interested in is to have a flange on both sides so air in one air out the other with a lens they make the flange kit or i could mod some duct work i'm going today to get the stuff i need so when ig et it up and running i'll post pic's

thanx

Another option is to come in from the sides as opposed to inline of the bulb. I couldn't really tell from the picture how tall the straight sides are but the biggest flange you could get in there will work. From there a reducer up to 4" dryer duct would be ideal. Unless there is room for 4" from the hood then your golden. Just a thought. I'm sure there is a million ways to go about it.

thanx " douche" your collars not popped is it ? jjust joking your one of the only people to actually post an nswer assuming you have experience with this any way thank you i did exactly that and it works well i was concerned there wasnt enough room around the reflector and ssuch cause shi tis packed in there but at this point i only had the rig on for about an hour (im not cycling now) so as i get this up i'll have more input

thanx
