NEW YORK (AP) — Arrests for the lowest-level marijuana possession crime in New York City over the years. The numbers reflect arrests of people charged as adults with lowest-level marijuana possession as the top or only charge:

1978: 2,699

1988: 1,861

1998: 32,936

2008: 40,390

2009: 46,493

2010: 50,385

2011: 50,688

2012: 39,230

2013: 28,644

Jeepers, I thought NY was more tolerant than this. After all it is just simple possession and the revolving door continues. The only one making money are the lawyers and the government.

So they are getting busted for just under an oz. What a shame.

Wow almost 300,000 arrests in 9 and a half years. That is a lot of police hours. How much do coppers get paid an hour over there?
