How big should my room be?

I have 4 plants under a 1000W MH running on full power, I have the room and ventilation to run on full power, I just cant get it to run on full power.
Im wondering:
What should the square footage of my room be to get optimal use of my light running on both 500 and 1000 watts?
I have an 9'x8.5' room with a ceiling height of 8'

What do you mean you cant get it to run, is it shutting off? A 1000 watt will cover a 4x4 area with no problem. This works well with the number of plants you have as they will need about two square foot per plant.

Welcome to Costco I love you

I mean, the ballast wont run on full power. I had it on half power due to my old room being tough to vent, but now I cannot get it to run full power. Will it need to cool off first? Im scared to have my light off for too long.

Yes it will need to cool off first. I had something close to this happen when I bumped into one of my 1000 watt lights causeing the power cord to jiggle and turn off the light. I re secured the power cord and tried to turn it back on and nothing. Then I let it sit for about ten mins and it came in no problem. If your plants are in veg don't worry about the light being off for a few min.

Exactly the answer I was looking for. Thanks a lot.

Anyone have any idea what size room will get the most optimal use out of my light?
