for autoflowers you can run the lights 18/6 from seed to finish. autoflowers don't have to have the hours changed to produce flowers. They are generally nute sensitive, so be careful not to burn them.

here is another related question. Has anyone done a comparison grow between 12/12 and 18/6 grown autos? or is there a middle ground that once passed any extra light gives much diminished benefit?

I grew mine at 18/6 with pretty good results. A buddy of mine tried growing them under 12/12 and found the overall production to be quite lacking. Since you don't have to change photoperiod to get it to flower you will want to maximize the amount of light you give it to induce vigorous growth.

my autoflower is on a 20/4 light cycle. and maybe close towards the end of flowering period ill change to 12/12 who knows. all depends on how high i will be that day. haha

Did some 12/12 under leds, turned out very small until I put a 600w over them for the last 3 weeks and they just about tripled in size, probably would have been a good bit bigger with the 600 the whole time, so I think they can do good under 12/12 with the right lighting. The strain was Diesel Ryder.
