How do we get big dense nugs?

Hey everyone! This is our first grow and we are using a 250W MH with a CFL coming from the side. We are unsure of the strain because it was a gift. We are in week almost 2 of flowering and all three babies have lots of popcorn!! If anyone had any good tips on how to increase yield or how to increase the density of the buds that would be great!!! Any advice is helpful. Thank you~! :) Please view our gallery for additional photos.

yeah we are flowering with a MH lamp. its 250 watt. we are considering buying the HPS. but have heard that the results would not be noticeable if we got a conversion lamp. we also heard that MH gives you dense nuggets.

Has anyone taken the time, and or effort to research the yield/density of flowering female plants with HPS, and flowering with just MH? I have read that MH produces Dense nug production, however I have now read that an HPS bulb would provide bigger punch. Does anyone know if it would be worth the $100 price tag to buy a conversion bulb? would me and my lady be impressed enough of the HPS to never go back?

Anyone have experience with flowering solely with MH? thanks for all your input:):joint:

i think eather will get you dence buds if you have the lights placed right and dont have too many leafs blocking the bud sites. you can also get dence buds with cfls thats what im doing.

Thanks for the input, we really appreciate it. We were wondering what kind of cfl lights you were using?, the wattage? , and how many? We currently have one small one coming from the side in an area of the earthbox which isnt receiving as much light as everywhere else. We were also wondering what you have done for your pruning? (and anyone else out there who has any good tips) Did you top them? We ended up zip tying them because we didn't want to cut them haha :)!!! Hopefully all areas are receiving a decent amount of light!

Yes man. That is what I have been saying all along. The MH has more blue and it does make a difference. :)

yes indeed. A tad late to start pruning now.
Also be aware that if you place cfls on their side that you will lose about half the lumens it is putting out.
u want to trim and prune in veg stage not flower

we definitely know not to prune at all costs during flowering, but we have heard that sometimes during flowering, the small leaves on the underside of the plant will turn yellow and droop, and that they should be trimmed. we have the slightly yellowing and dropping underside from the lack of light..

if we used CFL supplementation on the bottom side would it help it out? any advice is appreciated.

you can remove some lower growth that is yellowing, thats fine. But stay low on the plant. Sometimes lower branches can whip all the way around and shoot up and become nice buds themselves.

i use 6 cfls 2 are 42watts the rest are 26watts. i used 4 daylight 2 warm during veg and the oppisit for flowering. and what lacy said is right. if you want look at my grow in the cfl fourm.

Thank you for your CFL advice! We currently have one CFL light on our babies while they are awake in the daytime but we are investing in more soon. We are very glad to hear that you can remove yellowing leaves because we are always scared to remove anything off them! We prunned our babies pretty conservitive before flowering when we had no CFL lights on them just the 250w MH. Anyone have good advice on how many we might need for this set up currently? Basically we just want to make sure that the buds and foliage underneath our babies is growing just as strong and potent. So you would suggest to have more warm then daylight CFL's during flowering? Makes sense, so regardless of the wattage how close should the CFL's be to our babies? We have heard up to 1in? Have a great weekend! Thanks~ P.s. Check out our new pics in our gallery. :)!

well like lacy said she's had good success with dense buds using Metal Halide all the way through the grow. Im still on my first grow (see signiture) but Im 2 weeks into flowering and my plants are loving the light. in fact, Ive had to move the light up almost everyday.

anyways, aside from that feeding molasses will make your buds denser. I think theres some info about it in the grow FAQ probably under nutrients and additives or whatever. anyways the basic idea is 2-3tbsp's of unsulphered black molasses per gallon. I use Brer Rabbit unsulfered full flavor. (im in the US as well) and use it every other watering. you can also use the molasses all the way through flushing! :)

Thank you for the great advice superhighme. We are definitely going to go buy the brand you recommended us. We will keep you posted as we are in day 11 of flowering and we hope you will keep us informed as well. We will be using only MH and a few CFL's through out this first grow op. Then possibly investing in a conversion HPS bulb for flowering in future grows. If MH proves to yield what we desire then we will stick with it. Congrats on having to move your light every day :) We have already had to move ours all the way to the ceiling. Have a great weekend. Bye P.S. Have your babies started to smell yet?

Careful on that insidesun ECONO 400 watt HPS, I got one last month. Used it for 3 weeks and it took a crap. The ballast went bad. I have tried for a week to contact him by emails with no response. It says it has a 2 year warranty but wtf. Today he sent me an email " Remind me again did you get the wrong ballast" that was it.

I ordered a 400 watt electronic ballast from htg.com, it came with the power cords and the 5k socket shipped to me for $183 US. It runs cooler is quieter and I swear is brighter ( I use the same bulb and reflector ). Good luck, sorry for the rant. I just wanted to give people a heads up pn the customer service and quality over at Inside Sun. Peace
