How does my grow room plan sound? (1000w 5x5 tent)

I've been growing out of a 4.0' x 3.5' closet with a 600w HPS under an open air hood. I've typically yielded about 8-10oz from 8-10 plants grown in 1 sq ft spaces. Kind of a small SOG from seed type of grow. I'm wanting to upgrade my setup and move out of the closet into a tent! Here is my new item list:

S&P TD-150 6" Round Duct Fan 293/218 cfm. $140.97 w shipping

Dark Room DR150 II 60x60x80 Tent. $269.95

Can33 Filter 200cfm. $99.95

Sun System Cool Sun HID Reflector Hood and plug. $129.95

Lumatek 1000w Ballast. $249.95

1000w Agrosun Super Red Sodium Bulb. $89.95

I'm planning to run my ventilation like this: carbon filter > insulated duct > cooled hood > insulated duct > 6" fan > exhaust out of tent into room through a little more insulated duct to dampen noise.

My goals are to do a similar small SOG from seed type grow but with 20 plants in 1 sq foot spaces, hoping to yield about 1 lbs every 2-3 months now. This isn't really a yield question though, just looking to see if everyone thinks this sounds like a solid setup and upgrade for me? Is there anything I should change or anywhere I can find these items or items of similar quality for less? Thanks for everyone's input!

Less than 300cfm fan with a 200cfm filter is going to flow probably half of that. I'd get a filter more your size to go along with the fan, this is the one I have, works great for me. http://www.hydroponics.net/i/136771 The money you can save on the fan can cover the difference too.

Other than that everything looks good to me.

My only concern about that is noise is a huge factor for me. I need the quietest fan possible and from what I hear the S&P is the best to fit that bill.

Maybe I'm wrong about this, but I thought:

5' x 5' x 6.66' = 166.66 cu ft.

So to refresh the air in the tent once every minute don't I only need 167 cfm out of my filter/fan combo? Or am I completely off on that? This is my first time setting up an air-cooled hood like this.

It would be enough for fresh air turnover, but I'm just thinking that for cooling a 1000w hood you really want some good airflow. I vent a 600w unscrubbed with 220cfm in a 4x4 tent. Temps sit at 77-78 in a room thats about 68. So using the same fan plus a filter for a much hotter bulb may end up causing some heat problems. If noise is an issue, use a fan controller. Or wire one up out of a dimmer switch. If you do that though, I'd recommend just getting an 8" fan. The extra $15 on the fan and $10 on a reducer is well worth it IMO. You can still use the 6" ducting or run 8" and put the reducer right onto the hood.

An 8" 750cfm fan running at 50% will flow at least twice what your proposed setup would, at similar or possibly lower noise levels. A 6" wouldn't be AS drastic, but it should still be more powerful at the same volume. I've never used an S&P so I can't say for sure, but my 8"750cfm will outperform my 6"540cfm in both noise and airflow at the same time.

Mufflers work pretty well too if you've looked into them, but they're bulky and not everyone wants to spend the $$.

I could upgrade my fan/filter for less than a muffler. I would go to a muffler as last resort if the Soler and Palau was not quiet enough for me. They make a TD-200 8" model 538/476 cfm.. should I combo that with the filter you mentioned? It will cost me about $75 more for both, but I'd rather spend $75 more now than find out later after I bought everything.. lol

That should be good. Those fans do have the high/low setting which is pretty sweet. I suggested the one I did because I use a couple of them with great success, they're sturdy, have the best airflow for their size, and you wouldn't have to spend more than you had planned, they're about the cheapest available. But like I said I've never used the S&P and if volume is priority then the 8"s&p with the bigger filter would probably be your best bet. Either way you'll definitely have enough to cool a single light.

I don't think the fan is that loud. I mean of course it is loud, but it is easily drowned out by air conditioner or window fan. There are also some DIY muffler options that can be done cheap.

Wow that's a huge fan for that size tent and light. Bet its super cool! What filter are you using?
