Some interesting replies. It seems I am not that ahead of the game. This is the first time I have really thought about planning ahead. I am resetting my grow, I have learnt so much from reading these forums and I am noticing a vast improvement in my weed. The Autos I grew outdoors this summer were superb, as good as anything I have smoked.
I used to grow 20 years ago and stopped about 10 years ago. Back then I did everything in a boarded out loft with 2 x 600w HPS.
I started growing again at the start of Covid as weed was getting hard to come by and I was bored. I kitted myself out with some COBS, a tent, some fans, Gro+ Soil mix and a tri pack of Old Timers. What can I say I got some weed.
I have now decided to up my game. I built a pair of 150w Quantum Boards ordering the parts direct from China following the advice of a friend. I am very impressed with the results. So I am building another pair. I have been given a full extraction setup by a friend, gotta get my head round that.
I have recently simplified my grow medium and yesterday found a source of locally produced compost and manure, for next to nothing, so that has to be figured out. I also discovered that Tomato feed works just as well as the fancy pants nutes I was using. So I am now going to investigate using dry amendments. Once I have a good dry amendment regime down I am going to give BluMat irrigation a go.
I have put my foot down with my wife. She is like a kid in a candy shop with strains. She always wants something new. So we might have 3 or 4 different strains on at a time and never the same one twice. So I have insisted that 50% of the grow will be the same strain every time, grown from clones and the other 50% can be grown from a single strain of her choosing, which she can change each time. I want to get consistency and have a staple go to all day smoke, so I have chosen White Widow x Big Bud and she has chosen Skywalker Haze for this time and Star Dawg for the time after that. I have invested in a pair 3x2x4 propagation tents.
It's all proper fun stuff, IMHO. It has taken me 18 months to get the most out of a cheapo setup from Amazon and eBay and I have. Now I want the next level. I am not happy with weed that is good for a hobby grower, I want weed as good as some of you guys on here produce.
I have a grow of 4 different strains flowering now, they have at least 4 weeks left. Once they are done I am going to strip the tent and sterilise all my gear. Then I am going to install the new lights and extraction system. The Wife has 4 different strains in one of the propagation tents that are about 4 weeks from seed now, so they will be 8 weeks old by the time the big tent is ready to go. I will pot them up, lolly pop them and tie them down. Then give them a couple of weeks of 18/6 to settle in and give me some time to make sure everything is working nicely. Then flip them. Once they are flipped I will start on the getting the White Widow x Big Bud going.
Sorry for the long ranty post, I am a bit stoned (that outdoor Blue Dream Auto I grew in the summer really is something nice) and I am trying to get it all planned out in my head. I think I am going to start making proper notes.
Thanks for all the great content on these forums. It really is a great resource.
