How good are 70w hps in closets?

The title says it all i was looking at getting a large 400w hps but i have heard the heat output is quite high and i have very limited means of cooling it so i was considering getting 2-3 70w hps instead. Also how is the heat output and light penetration of these mini hps bulbs?

Metal Halide and HPS are both HID lamps and will put out a lot of heat. Regardless of the wattage, you need to have a means of exhausting that heat out of the grow room and in turn sucking in some fresher, cooler air. If you use proper ventilation and have the means for a 400 over a couple 70's, I would go with that. Good Luck

Light penetration of a 70W or even a couple 70 watt will not be nearly as good as a 400W. HPS. Its all about lumens and the 400W HPS will put out about 50,000 lumens while the 70 watters put out about 6,000 each
