How long do you keep your mother plants

Hello Everybody,
I did a search for the answer but I could not find one. How long you keep a mother plant for befor you start another one? Thanks G.D.:clap:

You can keep a mother indoor for as long as you can keep an apple tree in your garden......... almost LOL

i think it's all strain dependent mate, some clone only strains have been around 20+ years and it seems that others don't last more than a couple of years, not much info but it's all that came to mind

Had the same question a while ago. did some reading. Greg Greens, The grow bible said it best. some mothers have been known to last as long as a decade.... However, it is very strain specific. For most strains, and if you are takeing alot of starts, only keep a mother in circulation for 6 months. always keep a lookout for a very nice mother candidate. Young mothers make better stronger clones.
Just cloneing stress over a period of time, can start problems . I'm allways on the lookout for pretty offspring, and won't hesitate a moment, when it comes to tradeing up.

Thanks for all the replys as I am new to this I was planning on keeping mine for about a year unless on of the new clones looks like it would be a better mother. Do you just keep them in smaller pots so they stay small? Thanks to all and happy growing..:weed:

Thats the problem with people reading 'bibles' especially 'grow bibles' , they take them too seriously. Any bible that states most strains can only be kept for 6 mothers as mothers aint worth the paper its printed on..... What a joke , I guess you can't beat experience.

Or maybe the true meaning was lost in translation.

When I had cherry trees in the yard, they produced tasty fruit for only a number of years and then they became sour. MJ is a tree, and trees are like that.. I don't know why.

Been running the same strain for going on 3 years now and that's pretty much what I do now AFA new moms every year or so, when a clone has a really nice growth habit for bonsai and LST.

Clone a few times and you'll know what I mean.

I keep the moms in gallon pots and never let them get over 18" or so with regular 'haircuts', along with the bonsai and LST. Yes, a year or more in a gallon pot.

I kept a Mom for 7 years, just because she was worth it. Most I keep for a year than toss in the room to flower off, fitting end. I do keep clones of her.
