i put mine in the open so i get full sun all day. really depends on what time of year obviously the winter months get less light than the summer but in the summer my girls got around 13 hours a day of full force sunlight and then a few hours of dusk/dawn type light

alot of people grow in the woods and as long as its bright enough out long enough not to put into flower your fine, they dont need every min of sun per day.

during the summer they get between 8 and 11 hrs of direct sunlight. daytime hours average about 16 per day but 4-6 hours they get shaded

I like to give mine a few hours early in the morning and then more to a diffused or mottled light. Keeping my container plants in this type of setting has given me great results with much less stress from full sun light all day. Also, with plants growing in containers it is so much easier to maintain lower root temps and not be a slave to watering. I basically end up with a plant that looks like the ones I grow in the greenhouse only with stronger branches from the wind.
