How Often Should I be Watering Right Now? (OutDoor)

Hey RiU people quick question. As the temperatures are going up ive been trying to get a better idea how often i should be water/feeding now that it is so damn hot! It's been over 100 here in norcal and doesn't look to cool down anytime soon. Does anyone have good info on this subject? I can feel my soil is getting quite hot at the end of the end of the day and it makes me want to water more often. Suggestions? Attached is a couple of pics of my crop.

Crop looking healthy. I would stick with the same feeding schedule until you start to see deficiencies.

As far as watering, yes bump up your watering schedule. I've been getting crazy weather and have been soaking my gardens with a hose when the sun goes down pretty much every other evening. It's good to let the soil dry up and give your roots a stretch but no overly dry. You're gonna have some trees no doubt.

Ya i haven't been having any real issues this grow Im gonna stick to a little in the am and soaking at night. Right on Thanks! Good luck on your grow.

get a good meter like this one http://www.groworganic.com/soil-moisture-meter-17.html and check to see what is going on check every time you water don't guess and mulch them with fluffed up alfalfa that will keep the soil cool and save water. I'm in your neighbor hood and it has been a smoker, cooler for a week then turn it up.

i use a moisture meter all the time and ya be surprised how often ya will be wrong on watering them it pays for itself everytime you use it and your plants will love it also

When it's real hot they don't mind a watering everyday, just don't drown them and they'll jam out in the heat. When it gets above 110 a plant can drink an obscene amount of water in a few hours.

At that size and in pots id give them a good soak every 3 days. If they start to droop and wilt before watering then more often.

Your the only one there and soil type and drainage plays a huge part. Moisture meter is a great tip.

bark chips work as a great mulch layer aswell (non dyed)

I think im going to have to buy one. Im realizing since my plants have such a variance in size i'm watering them all about the same but they are no where near the same sizes so i need to follow more closely how quickly each is taking using up the water. Thanks for all the good advice.

Thanks for the advice all of my plants are in cut open pots/tires on top of chicken wire and then put into the ground, So they have roots deep in the ground already getting access to a larger area of water and nutrients without becoming lunch for home hungry gopher. I think the gauge is gonna be the best route. I really like this set up and recommend it to any outdoor growers with with good ground soil looking to get trees.

Mulch will help with the heat, and with water retention. Like others have said, Alfalfa is best, but just getting it covered with anything will help.

Covering it with hay made a huge difference! My soil temperature must have dropped 15 degrees or so compared to yesterday. I cut some hay of some sort that was dry on my property put a thick layer over the soil and then stood a layer up around the base of the pots as well to reflect the sunlight hitting the sides. My soil was still wet from this mornings feeding, very cool trick to help with the heat thanks!
