how should i add perlite?

High, i have a 3 gallon pot with a 5 week old plant in it. so far ive only used foxfarm soil with no perlite and the soil has been compacting and i would just add more ( i realise this is bad ) so i need to add perlite. im gonna go 2 inches of just perlite at the bottom and then a little less than a gallon of perlite mixed with the 3 gallons of soil. how should i go about doing this without transplanting because my plant is already sitting in pure soil. and if i do have to transplant, can anyone give me some tips on how to do it

Wait till its dry then mix it in then water.. Thats how i would do it

you will have to transplant.
add perlite to dirt, search for dirt and perlite and mixing and you should find examples.
as for transplanting research on man.

I use Fox Farm Ocean Forest soil and add maybe 2 cups of perlite per gallon of soil. That is a good mixture. Good luck!

i've been getting lazy and eyeballing it lately.

Yeah I never measure - that's just what I would guess it measures out to - lol. Cheers to us for being stoned and lazy!
