Won't be making hash straight away . I will probably make some next harvest which will likely be about 3-4 months . I have a few plants coming close to chop and wreckon I myt put a few ounces to the hash pile. What's the best way to store the bud to keep them as potent as possible . Freezer ? Or terrible idea ?

I've run both fresh frozen, and dry. Both turned out great. The fresh frozen was bit harder to work with due to the stickiness, but it's worth it IMO.
I've had some pretty good runs come out of last falls harvest, and still have quite a bit too run yet, the wife is complaining about freezer space LOL
I'll have to buy a small freezer for this years out door run.

Just like Kgrim said both fresh frozen and dry cured make great hash, you could even do half and half so you don't need as much freezer space. For the dry just cure and store it as you normally would and give it a longer presoak before washing (30 mins)
