I'm going to do a scrog, but I don't yet have something that will work for the screen. What is the best advice as far as characteristics of an ideal scrog screen go? Also, is there a way to DIY the screen from common household parts? I am somewhat limited to what I can get my hands on as far as going to home depot and buying the best-case-scenario, so what are some good alternatives? +rep to the best answer!

Get a $3 clothesline from Walmart or wherever & tie it to a wood frame or build a frame out of PVC pipe...I used the inside of my tent poles to make a frame out of cord- tie like 4 or 5 lengths one way then the other looping around each perpendicular line to form an adjustable grid- then save your bread ties or wire ties to use for SCROG or LST

I'm using an old baby gate. You know.the ones that keep kids out of the kitchen. This is my first scrog, only an.experiment in the corner but it seems to work fine. Look around I'm sure you can find something. I found mine on the.side of the road in the trash.

String is the cheapest but depending on the size and your time it may not be the best option for you. I do string on a 5ft x 8ft frame and it takes me a couple hours to restring after every grow. The poultry/garden fencing might work for you but as stated above your buds will be too large to pull out from under the screen. What I am saying is that if you want to pull the whole plant at one time the metal/plastic fencing is normally too small or rigid to allow that. But if you want to harvest one cola at a time then you will be fine. I like string because you can easily move it to where you need it.

I got a plant support like this and LOVE it, it is way better than a screen since there is one per pot and I can still move it around as needed. I think it was about $5 -$10 at Home Depot
