How to handle low height constraints?

I am new to indoor growing and this will be my first go at it. My only concern is that my growing room has a very low ceiling. I will be growing under a 400w MH/HPS that takes about a foot of height out of the room. Any tips for growing under a low height constraint?

honestly man just bend them over before the need arises and they will just grow sides ways. i grew massive plants under my bed with a 1000 and it looked like a tangled mess which it was but i got 9 or so ounces out of it. just bend em and tie them. but dont wait till they are touching. thats just unneccessary stress. good luck and its the outcome and not how nice they look growing. just tie em they can handle it

You can LST/TOP/BEND .. I'll put chart for top/lst.. the plant in my av is one bent at 45 degree angle.. that took 3' from height.
Thanks guys, im definitely going to try the LST technique. Now i just have to hope it doesn't get too hot in the room since i won't be using a cool tube. I have plenty of room for intake and exhaust setup but nothing directly cooling the light. Only time will tell i guess. Thanks again:bigjoint:

Haha, actually learning more about this LST, I'm tempted just to try growing one huge short shrub plant in a kiddie swimming pool sized container. Maybe i could make a hedge maze or something and have people pay 5$ to go through it

a friend of mine was tellin me about how he built like a box formation around his pot and plant out of chicken wire and then twist tied his plant to it and it just kept growing around and around it kinda like vines i think he ended up getting a lb and a half from it so worked well im in he process of trying it because im growing under a bed in about a 4' high by 6' long space and i have 4 plants under 24/h lite cycle which i planted 3 days ago 1s sprouting. My seasons just starting i germd last week but point is i dont have much space.
