How to make Tea?

I hear so much talk about how tea is the best organic fertilizer so I would like to know how to make it and use it. Please post your recipes for this wonderful stuff along with your success stories if you dont mind.

As far as I know its made partially from dried animal shit and other added ingredients but I could be wrong. Please let me know.

If it is made with animal feces and you have a recipe using chicken shit that would be great since I also raise chickens and have easy access to there shit. Thanks for all your help.

1TBL of your desired manure/compost per gal H2O, aerate (vortex is best imho, but airstone works perfectly well and is cheap and easy... 'course you can also hand stir like in the ol' days...)

use in media or as a foliar spray depending on your application. if you want to get fancy you can explore the marvelous world of EM1 as well, and lacto b.

How do you do it - Here's how: There are two ways

Get a clean container ( a bucket, a pail or large jug ), add a gallon of unchlorinated water, pour in what ever manure you intend to use. Bubble it with a cheap aquarium air pump / air stone for two days. Turn off pump, let settle for one hour & it's ready to pour into your feeding container.

Now, some people put their manure in a sock of some sort, like an old sock, panty hose or a old pillow case. That is OK, but I like the extra manure to water interaction you get from direct contact. More surface area exposed - more nutrients transferred.

See, not hard, pretty cheap & as you will see, a very effective way to feed Mary a well balanced diet.

Of course, your containers can be much larger, so can your mixes. 5 gallon buckets work well & allow you to mix up larger batches quite easy.

Common Mixes (I use - I don't buy into the more is always better thing.) -

Bat Guano (Either - Higher N or P) 2 to 4 tablespoons per gallon of water.

Bunny Poop - one cup per gallon of water.

Cow Manure - three cups per gallon of water.

Chicken Manure - one cup per gallon of water.

Worm Castings - 4 tablespoons per gallon of water (people argue about this one the most0. They say more, more is better. I disagree - the NPK value of Worm Castings is only .1 % N (soluble) & .9 % (slow release) with a NPK value of only 1-0-0 Worm Castings will not be adding any real amounts of NPK. What they will add - trace minerals & benefical microogranisms (good bacteria & fungi) so, 4 tablespoons gets the job done.

Is also a good idea to add an oz of Organic Molasses to your mix to feed the good bacteria. Unsulphured Molasses is cheap, available at most grocery stores & is easy to use. You add one ounce to each gallon of unchlorinated water. This produces a NPK value of 5-1-3 on average. The keys are unsulphured molasses & unchlorinated water. This makes an excellent low grade, all natural fertilizer, feeds the micro-beaties (good bacteria & fungi) in your manure tea mixs & adds some trace minerals -which is an added bonus.

[FONT=arial,helvetica]I love to drink ice tea with litchi syrup. I hate lemon flavour. When I started drinking ice tea, I completely stopped drinking normal tea. I make it every day and I love to drink it in a special glass. I have kept the glass separately and love to decorate it with lemon slice and mint leaves. When I read this article I also found green tea a little interesting. But I can not drink it hot. Because now I have stopped drinking hot tea. Also the idea of having lemongrass tea is great. I love smell of lemongrass. It is very refreshing I think it will also do well with normal tea.[/FONT]

welcome to riu!! great first post tryin to help with a killer tea recipe. but he was looking for a compost tea....2 differnt animals but a big ol +rep for trying to help

just such a great thing to see everyone sharing info i use bat guano in strait hot water as hot as can use at first about a tablespoon to 1/2 gal let sit in dark for a two to three days thats why i use half gal easy to manage i dont wanna spill watery shit then pour into gal jug half full slowly and solids stay at bottom then apply the water walaa

To help make your food even better get a 10$ air pump from somewhere like Walmart(Pet stores cost to much) get some 1/8 in hose at the same place. put the air hoses in your mix, plug in the Air Pump and Your off, in 2 days you will have some great Oxygenated Food. Do the same with Molasses Tea.

i've read that you don't want to use hot water when mixing your tea because the heat kills the beneficial bacteria. just let it steep in a bucket for a couple of days.

i'm pretty new to inside growing, old outside grower
anyways, my 1st grow attempt died in MGMC chemical laden soil, never again
so i went organic, read up on teas here, ohsogreen's posts huge help
here is a tea not much mentioned, but produces excellent results - bone meal tea
into a 2 quart container, 1/2 tsp molasses, 1 tsp bone meal
it takes a while to break down bone meal, this is week(s) job, not days
keep it well aerated, but you can just shake the container good once a day, that keeps it oxygenated
so here's a little proof of its results, this plant was feed with nothing else, used MG Organic bone meal(6-9-0)

Materials Needed
Bucket, plastic hose, air pump, cheese cloth, nylons or paint strainer and air stones.

Depending on what you're using mix your dry material up on the cheese cloth or nylons, tie it up and suspend it in the water. Hook up the pumps to the air stones via tubing and drop the stones into your bucket full of water. Any liquid additives, like blackstrap molasses and liquid karma, can be added now along with any powdered kelp if you use it. Stir it up, the molasses tends to sink to the bottom so be sure to stir that up before walking away. Agitate the cheese cloth or nylon a bit and do so periodically over the next 24-36 hours.

Recipes
Veg Tea
15 mL High N guano
15 mL Sea Bird Guano
15 mL EWC
15 mL Blackstrap Molasses
5 mL Kelp extract

All per gallon, use this every other watering or as needed. Longer brew times will become hotter or more active.

* Liquid Karma is a great addition as well at 15 mL per gallon.

Flowering Tea
30 mL Sea Bird Guano
30 mL cup High P guano
30 mL EWC
30 mL Blackstrap Molasses
5 mL Kelp extract

Jorge Cervantes shows how he makes(what I refer to as) shittea. He uses Llama shit and Sheep shit for vegetative shittea, and for flowering shittea he uses Llama shit and Bat guano.

He takes a 50 gallon barrel & fills it almost to the top with water. He then puts an air line in with a fairly good pressure of air going. He puts his dookie in a cloth bag, ties the bag to a string and lets it brew in that barrel for, I think he said, like a week. You then have a barrel full of wonderful nastiness!

You can of course use something smaller than a barrel.
