How to start seeds

Hi Guys !!!,

I hope this little thread will help any newbies out there.

Please feel free to ask any questions.

The strain I have germinated is Exodus Cheese from Greenhouse Seeds.

I had them in wet tissue (PH 6.0 water) in a plastic tupperware box in a dark cupboard with the top NEARLY SHUT to allow a bit of air.

They sprouted in just over 48 hrs but 2 have short roots so I will wait to pot the other 2. 8 out of 10 germinated at the same time - but that's Greenhouse for you!!!

I have placed them on the perimeter of my flourescents so they can search for light. I will follow up with more pics tomorrow. I am expecting that all of them will have poked out considerably.

If you decide to try this and loeave ur tap root as long as I do, then please remember to be light fingered and do not disturb/break the root.

Once the root is guided into the hole by the wooden skewer then you have to very gently pack the soil so that it touches the root. This is important because u don't want light bleeding onto the root either. If you are heavy handed then maybe pot them before the root gets this long but make sure u don't bury them.

It is very delicate but check the pics in a day or two and u will see !!

Feel free to watch but be careful if u are heavy handed.

You will be amazed at how much quicker it is this way.

One of the seeds pictured has actually cracked off completely so it was like seed surgery.

yeah i usually put mine in with a shorter tap root and cover it just enough so no light gets to it and then spray it with my spray bottle and it pops usually a in a couple days. I like this little technique because i have lost many seedlings from burrying them too deep lol, this takes away lots of room for errors.... definitively gunna try it next time around. Thanks for the info :bigjoint:

I don't like doing anything that has me getting near the taproot...lol. I have broken too many trying using paper towels...I use solo cups of soil, or coco and just cover them with ziploc bags that I remove once the plants pop through the soil...that way I don't have to worry about needing to water, or overwatering.

I think you should try it. I reckon that women will be slightly more dextrous than men. I will take some more photos later. I haven't seen them yet. no-one showed me how to do this it was just trial and error.

It look me less than 10 mins to plant them all out. Don't ur plants deserve at least 10 mins of ur time?

This thread is help people who have trouble starting seeds or want 100% success rate.

This takes 24 hrs in return and NOT A FEW DAYS to sprout. So, if I wet them in paper towel on Monday, I plant them on Wednesday and they poke thru by Thurs. This is only 24 hrs since planting out.

depends on how you are counting your days. its still 3 to 5 days and your seedling will look like millions of others planted
in oh so many ways.

Truer words have never been spoken. If you've noticed the pictures the tap root turns sideways once it gets some length. This helps to shed the shell. I always prefer to plant seeds pointy tip down.

Also this is good if you wanna know how to germinate seeds. Very simple nice pictures.
Well Done

Well guys, we shall see won't we?

As you know already I planted them into the pots yesterday morning and I just went to see them a while ago... (24 hrs in total)

What do you think? I'm happy!

I even planted out the last 2 today.

The best thing about this method is that it shows u if the seeds are good and if they crack evenly. If you go straight to soil burial and it doesn't work then u won't know if it's the Seed Co or something that you've done!!

This was only meant to be a quick short thread to help Newbies out there. If you want to see them progress then please let me know.

Thanks for reading !!!! :)

Ps- the ones at the back were further from the light so they are a bit shorter, I moved them a bit closer today and with even light coverage!!

Like I said before. Very well done. And yes I would love to follow this grow till the end. Just tell me where that journal is going to be posted. As I know you would probably prefer to keep this on open for germination information.

Thanks a lot. Glad u enjoyed it. I really hope it will help people and as seeds can sometimes be costly it may save a few expensive mistakes.

I could start a grow journal on this strain (Exodus Cheese - Greenhouse Seeds) as it is a favourite of mine.

I will add a couple of follow up photos to this thread to show their development.

plus the 48 hours you previously stated for the seed to crack and grow the root you proudly
wave around like a flag then jam into the rooting medium.
You can't rush the 48 hours but you can plant out more successfully.

Ha ha, I know I 'jam' it well as I have 100% success rate with 95% poking thru the next day.

Too many people think this is quite a good way of doing it and I thank them kindly for their adding reps.
