How to swap/clean DWC reservoir with SCROG ?

Hello all! First post here and brand new grower... be kind.

I was wondering how guys handle their DWC res in a SCROG setup. From what I understand it is best to clean/scrub the res every 2 weeks or with nute changes. With the plants intertwined in the SCROG netting, you can't just lift them up out of the res though. Do you sit the res on something higher, mount the top (with net pots and roots) at a fixed height, and then drop the res down and out of the way? Obviously it would be much simpler to just drain the res, treat with H2O2, and then top back up. I guess what I'm getting at is how important is cleaning the res? Would the H2O2 additions be enough if I keep the light out and res temps low?

FYI - My plan is for a veg room with T8 flouro's (or maybe CFL's) and a flower room with my 400W HPS. Space is not an issue, I have a 9x12' and an adjoining 4x9' space (both 7' high) to work with.

Somebody out there has to be doing DWC with a SCROG! Bumpity-bump...

Yes it is necessary, cleaning between changes helps fight bacteria that can build up, and it cleans out the residue left from your nutes, I'm in a similar situation, but my guess is place a 5 gallon bucket( or however many gallon bucket you use) upside down underneath your res so you have the space equal to your buckets. When flowering your roots will take over the whole bucket and if lets say your bucket is 10 inches high and you give only 5 inches below it you will have to tip your full bucket sideways to get it out from underneath your hefty roots

So was this solved? I'm really struggling to work out how to remove airstone from my bubble bucket system under my scrog?

If you don't have a drain/bulkhead at the base of your buckets, you can buy a really small EcoPlus submersible water pump (about $10). Just have to crack the lid enough to drop it in. It will leave about an inch of water on the bottom though so you'll have to either live with that (I do, and don't worry about it) - or else you can flush it with plain water while continuing to pump. If you don't have many buckets or have a bit of cash to drop, you could also just leave one of those little pumps in each bucket for future reservoir changes and/or just to mix the reservoir when needed. I don't tend to bother trying to scrub the buckets out mid-flower any more.

But I love those little pumps, good to have around in general. Makes mixing and adding into the reservoirs easy as well.

I once saw a photo of a scrog DWC grow. The grower attached the screen to the lid of the bucket. He just lifted the whole thing up and transferred it to a clean bucket when doing a res change.

Having a clean bucket ready to go would be the best solution, you wouldn't even need to pick up the SCROG. Just lift the net pot up and slide the bucket out, and slide the next bucket into place.

hey thanks for the advice, im using small amounts of h202 in my grow so i have be informed that cleaning out my buckets should not be needed until after harvest.
i however am going to test this theory, i have a inline pump so draining will not be a problem, my wife will then lift the bucket lid while i get in there with a clean cloth or micro fibre cloth and give the insides rub, if there is any build up im going to buy a new bucket and have it ready to go (andprobably ditch h202 as its not working as i want it to). if not then my life is slightly easier and i can continue as i am!

My DWC's are SCROG when we run them. I drilled 4 holes in a square pattern through the netpot lid and with washers at the bottom, then used eye bolts and nuts (locktighted) with 1/4" nylon string tied to the screen. The screen is in a frame and I just lift the whole thing up with a line and pulley system. Swap out the bucket and lower it back down. BOOM - DONE!

Great idea! You got a photo of that set up? The photo I'd seen the guy drilled the same holes in the netpot lid, but then used rigid supports to anchor the scrog. So he lifted the whole thing up to move the plant to a clean bucket.

Your system, once in place, seems even better. Would love to see a photo...
