HPS - Bulb Life

Experienced grower here.

A buddy was complaining about burning out too many bulbs and asked me how long my bulbs last.

I keep track of everything and discovered my 1000W HPS bulbs last me 2 years at continuous 12/12
activity. All I do is flower a perpetual grow in there so the light is constant at 12/12 forever. My veg room has a 400W
HPS bulb (400W MH was too hot in that small space) and they last 2 1/2 years average while running on 20 hours a day forever.

NOTE -- A big factor in bulb life is how often the bulb is turned on and off. Quickest way to blow a bulb is to be fooling with the timer
while you click the bulb on and off..... So use some other plug-in appliance, I use a drill, to test the timer while you first set it up. Don't
just keep clicking the timer with the light switch on.

When you discover something helpful - pass it on. We're all here to learn, eh?
BigSteve.

My 1000watt hps eye hortilux is 2 years old 12/12 everyday. Cool tubed. My 600watt HPS lumatech bulb only last about 7-8 months and burns out. The nice thing about the lumatech bulbs is that they have a year warranty.

i use two 400 watts one for veg and one for flower 24/0 and 12/12 going good for 2 1/2 years but time to replace lumens are less when older.but if you friend is burning them out quickly is he touching the bulbs with oily hands if not look at the electrc maybe useing extection cords instead of using outlets or to much on the circut to start with or a lot of power spikes or interuptions chck theses
