HPS cooling - the light itself

I have a 600w hps in an air cooled hood with a 6 inch inline fan on it. The fan motor died and it will be awhile till I can replace it. Heat around the plants is still ok since there is plenty of other air moving from other fans. But I'm a little concerned about the temp inside the hood with no fan there. I could take the glass off, or I could run it at 400 till I replace the fan, or I could not worry about it as long as temps at the plants are ok.

Tilt the hood 1/8 inch to one side. The thermal convection of the heat rising out of one end will pull cooler air through the other. When you get your fan back fix it. Also fans Don't really care for hot air so push hot air pull cold.

Go to your local hardware store and pick up a 110 volt bunt (sp?) Fan. They are like $5-$6, and are more powerful then the $30 inline booster fans. I did this for a temporary set-up. I bought a 6 inch plastic tube ($1.00), cut a 2 inch by 6 inch gap in it, slid the fan in, wrapped the tube in duct tape and connected all of my duct work to it. It was only supposed to be temporary for my veg box, but has worked so well that i havnt replaced it. Been running 24/7 for 6 months now!
