Hps light and ballast noise and heat hazard

150w Hps light and ballast are completely silent until they fully light up (5 minutes). Once my light is fully lit up it start squeeking/buzzing a high pitch noise like crazy. The light gets so hot in the first 5 minutes it burns my hand .. Is this normal?

Btw my ballast doesnt have a switch it just turns on when i plug it in (chinese shit) i feel like its running too much electric into the light but maybe im wrong, i just got this hps from cfls

make sure the lamp is good and seated.
Cheap lamp/ballast combos will ring, it's from either a ballast with a high thd output and/or a cheaply made lamp.
Acoustic resonance is the term used to describe the noise.
If it's an old core and coil ballast (magnetic) , those are known for low thd.
If it's a cheap digital ballast those can also be known for higher percentage of thd.
This will cause acoustic resonance and the lamp will vibrate to a point it puts out a ringing noise.
Personally I am hearing impaired enough I can't hear up to that frequency but it must be annoying as fuck to someone with normal hearing.
