Humidity questions

Hi guys. I am wanting to start my second closetI grow, but my first was a mess and my plants ended up stunted. I want to figure out what went wrong before going through this again.

I don't think it was a soil problem, because during the grow I took a couple of the plants over to my Mom's house and put them outside and all of a sudden they exploded with wonderful, rich green growth. I have 250 watt hps, so they were getting enough light. I don't have a way of getting outside air in to the closet, no way can I be cutting holes through the side of my mobile home. I did have a fand blowing on them, it was only four plants, and they just simply would have stunted growth. I was using MG, the blue/green crytals, but again, when I took them to my Moms they exploded in growth, same pots, same soil.

The one thing I keep coming back to is humidity. I got one of those electronic temp.humidity meters, and my humidity in my closet was between 20-30 percent. Most of thew time 25 percent. I even tried one of the humidifiers that have the little stream of steam, but this didn't raise it but just a couple of points. I live in Tennessee, and it's fairly tropical humid outside, so I am wondering if that's the reason these things exploded with growth when I put a couple pots outside at my Moms.

Since they grew great at my Mom's, then doesn't this absolve the soil as being a problem? Will 25 percent humidity simply stunt plants from growing. The plants would not die, but they would not grow, I tried laying off the nutes, back to the nutes, plenty of light under the HPS, the temps were low 80's, not too hot. I am in my bedroom a lot, sleep there, so I can't imagine Co2 being a problem. Those suckers did great once they were outside in the high humidity for a couple weeks. I took them home to flower them and ended up with crap as they again stoped growing and I ended up with sticks with buds on them, light buds that amounted to hardly anything.

Please, I want to grow in my closet again, but man I hate to start down that road again only to have my plants stunted and not grow well. Could 20-30 percent humidity cause this? I do wake up at night with my throat dry and have to keep water beside the bed. I am thinking I need to get one of the humidifiers that sprays the mist up in the air, not the one with the little trickle of steam. Any help would be great.

low humidity is the problem. i recommend a cool mist humidifier. you can find them for cheap at drug stores and the like. the only thing with humidifiers is that you cant use anything but the purest of water, else the salts will build up on the plants and mess them up something awful.
