That's kind of a loaded question...
Do you have a plant count limitation?
Do you want to SOG, sea of green?
Do you want to SCROG, screen of green?
How big of plants do you want/how long do you want to VEG?
A flood and drain table can have any size pot used on it.
The size of the pot is based more on the desired size of the plant.
You can run 60 - 4 inch pots, or you can run 4 - 3 to 5 gallon pots...
There are even guys running Ebb and Flow without using any medium at all:

I run Ebb and Flow but my system is a little different.
My external reservoir feeds two individual 5 gallon totes, each holding one 2 gallon fabric pot filled with expanded clay pellets. One plant per 5 gallon tote. Floods for 3 minutes every 4 hours.

It may be helpful for you to go to the Grow Journal section and search for 'flood and drain'.
That way you can see how some other folks have their tables set up.
