Hydrogen peroxide added to res???

I overheard someone talking about adding hydrogen peroxide to their hydroponics reservoir to eleviate and also as a preemptive strike.

My question is how does this effect your plants? You can do this WITH plants in system? If so how much per gallon?

usually doesn't hurt your plants at all .. and you get the benefit of healthy roots and no nasty things growing in your rez.... I used to use 1 tb. per gallon of water ... with a 35% solution ..

I use 1/3 cup in six gallons of water. That's ordinary 3%. I know people who do that every day and their plants look great. I do it about twice a week.

So, as a preventative, there is no harm to your plants at all, just benefits?

as long as your not running soiless and a rez , it wont hurt anything .. just good things

You cannot use h2o2 if you are using anything organic or beneficial bacteria etc, that's the only downside

I use it in my soilless system once a month. I get the 10% and add it at a rate of 1 tsp for 5 gallons. To prevent any rot.

I have been snooping around online, and several sources actually say to use BLEACH instead, about 4-7 ml per gallon. Is this even possible, I can't understand how bleach wouldn't just kill your plants. Anyone ever done this?

Yes people use bleach. But damned if I will ever but that in a res exsept to clean it with no plants growing.

I'm not knocking anyone specifically who posted on this thread by saying this, but isn't it ironic how many people on this site tell people tap water is bad for plants... but then who turn right around and recommend adding bleach (chlorine)/hydrogen peroxide and Cal-Mag into the bottled water they purchase from a company that just bottles the very same tap water after removing the chlorine and minerals before putting it in a bottle and selling it at a huge markup?

Bleach = chlorine. People use it for the same reason they use hydrogen peroxide. They are both oxidizers and kill off microbes.

The only sense in which tap water should be considered "bad" is that you might not know what it's makeup really is. Therefore there might be something in it that would contraindicate its use. You can get free reports from your water company about tests that were done on your water supply.

But I think the vast majority of public water in the US is fine for growing. I used to use RO water and it was a pain. I've used tap for a few years and see no difference at all.

Technically, H2O2 is acidic but it oxidizes and turns into water rapidly - so it doesn't really have any effect on overall pH for practical purposes. It also won't have any practical effect on ppm's or electrical conductivity since it's not a dissolved solid (after oxidizing, only water remains).

i use it at every res change and swear by it...just add your organics 3 days later cause the peroxide will dissolve...

oh and our citys dont put the best minerals in our water supply!

you gotta pay to play!

I tried it, using the 3% solution at the rate of 1 tbl per gallon and its been about 36 hours. My plants are showing no adverse affects, the ph level is still solid and the roots hanging down are already noticeably whiter. I think I've been converted.

don't use bleach man... use h202. It won't hurt your plants. And it oxygenates your water... and you don't need much. use like 3-5ml per gallon of 29%... You don't have to use too much.
