I arrived home earlier to my garden in darkness, more than 2 hours before it should have been, I can't even see the HPS atm as I have just left them dark lacking the knowledge to deal with it, I am going to buy a dual spec 400w tomorrow but what if it is the ballast!

don't know where to go from here..

That sucks do you got any cfl's you can throw up in there until you get a new bulb or ballast?
Were you in veg or flower?
lol, both they are autoflowering, I am near flower but they flower by age not light reg.

Damn, that sucks bro. I thought you meant you were really baked, or tripping on something, lol.

haha, no but I am most of the time

leave them in dark until their normal time. Try to maintain your light schedule....no permanent harm

peace
cof
thanks cof can always count on you didn't really know how bad it was such a noob!

About timers, some are iffy. Like I have the hydrofarm digital timers rated for 15 amps. One plug on them but If I connect two 600's to a power strip and the strip to the timer it's a no go on the turn on.

done, 3 hours ago :-(
Check it out. We had bad wind storms about a month ago and our power kept flickering. Every time I would go check my lights to make sure nothing was fucked up. I have digital timers with battery backups so I wasn't too worried about the timers. Every time I went down the lights would be off right after the power flickered. I waited a few minutes because I know it can take a while for the bulb to kick back on. After about 15 min. still no light. I could hear the ballast humming so I unplugged it. Left it unplugged for about 10-20 minutes and then plugged it back in. The lights came back on. This happened 4-5 more times that day and every time I would have to go down and unplug and leave the ballast unplugged for 10-20 minutes. Each time I plugged it back in it would come right on. This may be what happened or the bulb is toast. How old is your ballast?:weed:

They are cheap but very good?, I have a 400w HPS and a cooling fan 18/6 on two timers..

I also have a badass systemair fan and filter that I will run 24/7 as soon as they start to stink..

No problems at all. This was over the course of one day though, but keep in mind this shit is going to happen. Indoor growers rely on a lot of gizmos and electrical gadgetry and shit fails. I like to have backups for backups, know what I mean? It's not as easy to induce hermies as some on here like to think. I've stressed plants in every conceiveable way and only had a handful of hermies and those were bagseed. ;-)

P.S. Is it a digital or magnetic ballast?

Yea man you gotta let your arc tube cooldown for 10-15 minutes before turnin it again or else you could shorten bulb lifespan.
Sucks about that wind...I hate it when theres power outages over here.

Since they're autoflowering light schedule doesnt matter so you shouldnt have a problem there, also before you go out buying a new light check that the timer is working properly i've had a few dodgie ones in my time!

That maybe but they can still herm and IMHO if you flipped an 18/6 reg to a 24/0 with autos it would effect them..

I will check the timer though got a few new one here anyway, rep'd
