I am doing a small organic CFL grow box and just transplanted from pint size plastic cups to 3 gallon root pouch pots. The soil mix is roughly equal parts peat moss-perlite-vermiculite-compost, with an addition of ground dolemite lime. PH is measuring 6.75.
I had been watering the pint size cups with a very mild (1/2 'mild' strength) Earth Juice Grow mixed with RO water. When I started my seedlings I wasn't getting much growth until I started to really let them dry out between watering... classic newbie mistake, but I am a total newbie so there you go. By the end they came back well after I got used to what a really dry cup weighed.
Now that they are in their final big pots, I want to get my watering regimen down correctly as soon as possible. I gave them a good soaking when I transplanted them, but got a lot of run-off too as the soil was bone dry. Watered with RO and mild Earth Juice Grow and Micronutrient.
Aside from welcoming general advice or suggestions, I am specifically looking for guidance on how and when to water these plants. I checked them this morning after transplanting (that also included an initial tie down to train the plant to grow at a lower height) and all the leaves have happily turned up to the light. The leaves do look slightly dry... a bit wilted... but the bottoms of the new fabric pots are still damp.
Do i give them a little drink or do I let the whole big pot dry out completely. I did fill an extra pot with the same soil so I can pretty well feel what a dry pot is.
