I need help! Cant figure out what type of bug i have.

So im a first time grower and my plants have been doing great so far but about a month ago i noticed small clear/greenish bugs crawling around the sides of my pot, in the soil, and at the base of my plant. At first i thought they were aphids or spider mites so i tried using a couple different methods from a spray pesticide to natural remedies to put on the soil but with no luck. I've looked in all the spots they say they are supposed to be like on the stems and under the leaves but i don't see any(besides the above mentioned places). So now im starting to wonder if they are mites or aphids because the treatments aren't working. My plants are in their 2 week of flowering and they look great buds are growing nicely and no problems besides the bugs. I heard lady bugs work great for some pests but im not sure what i have so i dont know if they will be effective. Wish i could upload a pic but i cant get a good image with my phone. Any help is greatly appreciated thanks

First time grower myself but I'd bet its spider mites. I have them myself now and have been treating with sprays for weeks. I've found that they are leaving my plants alone and staying mostly in the soil. Prob because I spray the plants and they keep dying off. You'll notice them more right after watering. They flock to the rim of the flower pot. Bust out the vacuum cleaner on them while they are running around the rim. I just ordered some lady bugs myself. Hopefully they come in tomorrow. I'll let u know how they work

Are you sure they are mites? Doesn't sound like them at all, sounds like fungus gnats to me. Any damage to the leaves? Like stippling? Those are what mites do, but also could be thirps. Pics would help

Fungus gnats are little black flies. They fly all around your plants an are pretty easy to recognize. If you've been treating with sprays, you can have spider mites who don't have a chance to damage the leaves of the plant. They are near impossible to eradicate. They could be all over the floor if your grow space. So after you spray, it kills all on the plant and they come right back. Prob won't be able to get rid of them all for this grow, but you can manage them with the old vacuum cleaner and flower safe sprays. It's a lot if work but my flowers and leaves are untouched by the mites. And there are a lot if mites that come out of my soil after watering. I vacuum the pots and area around them multiple times a day. Even vacuum the stalk I the plant. But be careful of leaves. I sucked a couple up

So as long as i keep them under control i can still get a good harvest? then i just go and do a clean up my entire space after

here are some pics of the plants close up of one of he buds, the under canopy, upper canopy, and as good as a pic as i could get of the bugs. plants still doing fine as far as i can tell.

All of you. Lol get some pest strips that stink...it only takes one for small spaces but I'd use two for larger areas....I gots no bugs

Pest strips are ok for short periods but you do realise they contain dichlorvos which is a carcinogen.


And they don't work at killing things under the soil.


I would hazard a guess at the blurry pic and say I've had these before. SOIL MITES.


Part of a healthy soil. Eat decaying matter and fungi.


I tried everything to get rid of them that wasn't too harsh on the plants.

SPINOSAD. Reduced their numbers but didn't eradicate.
Neem. Reduced their numbers but didn't eradicate.

I would hazard a guess and say that a drench of H2O2 hydregon peroxide should sort them out but it will also kill off any beneficials found in the rhizosphere. So if you're organic forget H2O2.

hey get a few packs of these. the work ! I had a spyder mite problem. used neem. and it got them 90 % gone. but 90 % is not good enough. so a friend told me to get these so I bough 1 strip per 5 plants. with in a week all gone ! and still gone for 5 month later. nock on wood they don't come back. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Hot-Shot-2-29-oz-No-Pest-Insect-Strip-HG-5580-6/100004739#specifications also I have used olive oil and add ph up in the water so ph lever of over 10 kills bugs. and a teaspoon of soap per gallon water mix all 3 of them.

ALL OF YOU GO GET ORGANIC BUG KILLER. FFS stop using fucking crap that is bad for the plant an the people that smoke it.

I really hope that you're not leaving your hot shots no pest strips out in your grow room from start to finish.

Otherwise you've contaminated your crops with a known carcinogen and are allowing people to smoke it.


I would never use a hot shot strip beyond week5 of flowering.

After this time there is enough of a tombstone period to allow the dichlorvos to degrade to a point where it can no longer be found in or on the plants.

There is a reason they tell you on the packet to not be in the same area as them for over 4 hours.


If you exhaust into your living quarters from your grow room then you're pumping dichlorvos into your home too.
