i need some tips : ]

okay so.. this is the first time i've gotten a pot plant to actually grow. i have 2 going right now i think they are about 6 weeks old, ones doing good its about 8 inches tall.. the other one was doing good but started dying.. i have some questions about them.. if anyone can give me some tips that would be sweet...

my set up is in my closet, i have a 4 foot floresent twin tube aquarium light, i've been giving them 18-20 hours of light a day scence they sprouted.. i cut back to 12-14 hours of light a day last week. i hear 12/12 hours of light and dark makes them flower but how do i get them to show what sex they are?
do i do the 12/12 thing? or so they have to be a certain age?
the soil i used is a mixer of potting soil and soil from a garden outside.
i really want to figure out whether my healthy plant is male or female.

also how much water should they be getting.. i give them just plain water like every couple of days or when the dirt looks too dry but on some of the leaves near the bottom of the plant the tips of the leaves curl a little and turn brown or yellow... do they need more water?

and if my plant turns out to be female how long does it take for them to start budding once you start the 12/12 light cycle?

anyone with some experience please help me out look at my plants in the gallery.. is the healthy one ready for me to start the 12/12 ?

so there a month 2 weeks old eh .... well ...if this was my grow what i would do is switch the light cycle for flowering .... thats how you tell the sex ... go 12on 12 off ... but when 12off is has to be COMPLETE darkness no light ...... apparently they double in size when flowering ... up to a week or so youll see what sex it is .... two pistols are female ... and if you see small tiny balls which eventually grow into pods .... then its a male ... the small balls are smaller then peas there pinnner ..... have you been feedin them any nutrients .... i think thats why some of your leaves are curlin or browing ... once you start the 12/12 cycle you should see budding in 2 weeks ... jus mild starts of it tho ... your plants are big compared to mine ... ive been goin 5 weeks and there like 3 inches tall .... but its probably because of my weak lighting

do what dus suggessted for the sexing,u should find out what sex soon enough,the watering,give them about a quart per plant,feed as neccesary(when dry)about every other day is a bout right.they r ready to flower so go ahead and get them on their 12/12,theyll double in size so u should get a pretty good size plant.feed them nutes once in flower,did u during veg?and then patience is all u need....good luck with your grow and i hope its a girl!!!!rascalone

no i just give them plain water... do they need nutrients? what kind?
the last time i gave a pot plant plat food it died.. but it was little so maybe thats why.... i dont know

Unless you start with the highest quality soil money can buy, you'll need some sort of nutrient supplements. They don't need a lot, though. Throughout the vegetative cycle, I usually would feed plants only every so often, more so towards the start of the flowering cycle. This is, of course, for soil-based plants. Hydroponic setups need plenty of regulating as for as nutrients go.

The plant food you find commonly available is really not suitable for growing marijuana. Make no mistake, you can use it. In EXTREMELY diluted solutions, that is. Using the recommend dose of commercial food for house plants is a sure fire way to kill or maime your plant. There are numerous issues involved with using these products, but I'd personally discourage using them unless you absolutely have to.

I'd recommend investing a bit of cash... It will pay off in the long run. FoxFarm really has about the best lineup of products available for hydro and soil. If you want to just keep it simple, get Grow Big and Big Bloom. Your plants will love you for it.

well im a little short on cash right now... do they absolutly NEED it? like will they still bud without it? i havent used any on them yet and they seem to be doing good

judgin from my noobness ..... if they do bud without nutes .... not only will the bud be weak but so will your yield

You really dont have $4 for Miracle Grow Bloom Booster?

ya, it most likely will be shitty ... i spent 55 bucks on nutrients ... trust me they last lol .... ive barely used any cause when i mix the nutes with water the diagram only says to use like say 2.5ml ... 5ml .. and 7.5ml ..... gro . bloom ..micro .... just as an example ... i think the nutes i bought will last me 4 grows or more

oh well if its only 4 buck i can do that......
but i found some plant food at my house the name is worn away so i cant read it but it says ultra pure. all purpose. concentrate.

true. this is my first grow op aswell, i just have one question for you guys...
my plant is out 3 feet tall.. and has a large amout of begining flowers... i have to split 1 plant up between 5 people.. were goin to wait for maximum harvest but id like to know ur opinion on how much we each will get.. its about a 3 foot plant and its the end of augest.... i live in canada. its outdoors so the lighting is determined by god.

my guess would be 2 ounces if everything goes good .... you could yield way more if the weather was with us... but its garbage ... i live in cananda too ... and its starting to get pretty chilly at nite ... i let my outdoor plants stay outside until the sun sets ... then at dark i bring them in otherwise the cold will stress them ... then again it also depends on what part of canada your in

2 ounces each??? or the total yeild will be 2 ounces?... ive found the weather incredible the last week.. hot sunny days and warm rainy nights... let me know what u think i can do to increase my yeild, like i said i have only 1 plant between 5 people..
