I think one of my baby leaves is burnt

I've read a bit of the FAQ/general how to grow weed threads, specifically from Widow Maker, and I still have a question (questions?). I am a total grow noob, sorry!

Of three plants using three lights, the middle plant seems to be burning a bit on one leaf. For now, I've moved the middle light away a couple extra inches and readjusted the distance (to increase the distance between the middle light and plant. The middle plant seems probably 30-50% dryer than the ones on the outsides and the plant seems to feel a bit more wilty.

My bf is more well-read on this stuff but it's our first time growing and he's done pretty much all of the work. Started with some Blue Dream seeds we got lucky and found in a little treat bag (and now we're here)

We try to keep the house between 74 and 78, using CFLS bulbs and they're just in a closet in a guest room/office. They were planted in Miracle Grow seed starting mix. My bf waters them I believe twice a day and is super anal about it haha.

After I just went to look at the set up again, I noticed the middle light is significantly warmer than the other two. Like I said, I raised this one a little higher off the plant(s) than the other two on the outside.

If you get a fan on them you can put the lights closer like 2 inches from them to keep em short and fat, and also thicken the stalks up..good luck

What are the temps in there? how close were the lights ? also stop watering them they have issues and would not be drinking, he is overwatering especially with no perlite. They look stressed from heat ,bad transplanting and/or overwatering etc.

he's done pretty much all of the work

Can you ask him why they are strapped to an egg carton?

thanks, homie. i was just poking around here and saw stuff about fans. will definitely try this as well as moving the lights slowly but surely closer, since the curly leaf looks and feels a bit like it's burnt (to me, IRL), not overwatered. and we are definitely aiming for short n fat!

74-78F in the house, not sure re: the temp of the closet itself. the room seems a bit cooler but the closet is obviously going to be significantly warmer.
lights were prob <6" away, more like 4" but i'd have to double check with Mr.
he's not overwatering, he corrected me after reading this thread. he's only watering once a day. he waters using measuring tools and it doesn't appear they're being overwatered, based on all my internetz research so far. we haven't transplanted them; they're tiny.
LOL. they were originally strapped to an egg carton to allow for future/potential aeration/water drainage, but mostly for stability. also, the egg carton is sitting on a VCR soooooooooooooooo... #ghettorigged

also we were high as hell when coming up with these ideas so yeah... lol

heat is rising out of the other 2 reflectors making the middle one warmer.
i second the fan for sure just enough to gently wiggle the plants.
should also def find out temps should be under 80 or will get heat stress.

Surprisingly well! Things continued to go well for a while after we last posted, but then all 3 plants started doing very poorly, and some fruit-fly looking things started showing up.

We decided to transplant them all into larger containers since I suspected we had some kind of a fungus problem due to the flies, and 2 plants didn't recover after transplating. The 3rd and healthiest plant looked very bad, but we started putting it out on the deck in full sun to give it one last chance, and it finally started bouncing back.

We also upped the amount of light its getting indoors with a new 68W CFL after learning the 15W ones were probably insufficient. It's reacted well to that.

We just noticed that the CFL we bought is 2700K spectrum, and not ideal for vegetative stage, so soon we'll pick up some 40W 6500K's

It's grown a lot since we posted a week ago! Some bugs had a snack of the tender leaves and we pruned them, but we don't leave it outside anymore. Plus I think since its older its less susceptible to bugs, but might be my imagination.

yeah get a breeze going on em' , twice a day is crazy!!!! at most you should only have to water once a day, i only water every other day hell sometimes not even that cause i forget to. Over watering #1 killer... with a breeze on them, you should be able to have the lights about 2-3 inches from the tops. Once they get a set of decent fan leaves and are a few inches taller i would throw them in there permanent container. If this is your first grow, i would recommend 2-3 gal container. You can go to a discount store and get 3 gal buckets with the handle for a buck or two a piece and there sturdy. Plus you can get your plants a few feet tall in them.

yeah if your only growing a couple plants you should be fine with a couple hundred actual watts. I got 5 k's on all mine, even in flower room and every things doing fine, only reason i have not swapped to 2700k's is because im planning on grabbing a 1000 watt HID kit in a few weeks, cant wait to see the difference. You growing for personal, or profit, or both? If your planning on anything more than personal, If i was you i would invest in HID.

hah, on plants early stages I water them once a week, later it gets every 5days and only in later flowering I water every 3 days. but watering "once a day"?? well a lot of depends on a soil you're growing and the quantity you're watering. but seriously.. no wonder two did not survive.. Well it seems like you have your plant getting there. as TheSnake said, use ~3gal container. I did my 1st grow with 140W actual watts of 3x2700Kcfl and 3x6500K in 3gal pot, got 1.4oz(40g) of dried buds.
Leaves looking healthy, side branching starting to kick in, you're getting there, do not over fert and watch a plant for N and ca-mg deficiencies. good luck

thanks, y'all! i was sorta mistaken about the watering schedule. as mentioned earlier we certainly don't water 2x/day, or even once a day now that it's not going outdoors anymore. probably closer to every 3-5 days depending how the soil feels. also, he was watering like, two tablespoons of water a day, not a crazy amount, lol. the other two didn't survive likely bc a) we're huge noobs, b) they were bagseeds we took out of our grinder lol and c) we were using super weak lighting.

i've also started growing some other plants, sunflowers, daisies, basil, rosemary, etc and am learning quite a bit from that hehe. my bf is reading books about our other plant like crazy and i'm absorbing most of what he passes on. we ordered some seeds online and are actively researching how to transform one of our spare rooms into a garden

at this rate we'll be lucky if we get any for personal! haha. but if things go well and we take to our new hobby then maybe we'll go into business, hehe.

when do yall think we should transplant from the terracotta to a gallon/plastic bucket? and would it be advisable to shake out most of the dirt surrounding the roots and transplant it into a larger/gallon bucket of coco coir?

tablespoons??? and how you guys know that those two tablespoons went on all of the plants roots, not only on taproot. You need to soak all soil, drain it well and wait for it to dry again.
I think you can still wait some time before transplanting, but if you want bigger yield, my advice - do that.

If you want to cram alot of knowledge down your brain tube, go to barnes and nobel, or any major book store and find a book on marijuana growing. I did years ago, but never got a grow up till recently, and my stoner asshole friend stole my book so i cant reference it now, but holy crap, halfway through a book and all the lightbulbs in your brain start to go off, and you get a much better understanding of the plant. Dont get me wrong, advice from others on here, and similar sites is great, but I'd def check out a book or two, or hell, see if you can download a PDF format book off a random torrent site to save the $ and the trip... also the weird gaze i got from the cashier bwhahaha...
