Idea. need help.

So, I got to thinking after some reading.
And I was wondering, what if you started a seed in some rockwool, then after 2-3 weeks transplanted into say a 70gallon tote, full of hydroton?
Just an idea, but I want to hear someone elses opinion.

Whats the reason for so much hydroton?
