Ideal driver for 3x Luminus CXM22

Hey guys, would would be a solid driver for the CXM22? I was planning on going with the MeanWell HLG-185H-48A based on the options available at CobKits but figured I'd open it up and ask the community. I'd like to shoot for at least 150W and it doesn't need to be MeanWell.

Just bought 2 for xmas just based on price and the option to add some more cobs later on. I'm a novice. I think I'm going to go with the cxm 22's. The guy at cob kits suggested them. I don't think it would be money wasted.

I think thats the wrong driver but im not sure. I think that can only start one cob, not 3?

I don't believe that is correct. I think you need a minimum of 3 for the driver.

im new to all this. But on my hlg 185- 1400 the 185 seems to be watts output? and the 1400 seems to be the ma drive the lights see? I forget which part determines whether they will start?

vF or forward voltage. The cxm 22 is a 50 volt cob. Will need about 50 volts +/- depending on drive current.

so its just a coincidence that with 4 cree cobs it draws 185 watts?

At 1400ma the crees draw about 200 watts. That driver will only drive 3 cxb3590s at 1400ma

I got it from timber, they say 200 watts but at the wall it pulls 183 max with 117 volts input. It has 4 cree 3590's

Hi @cookie master,

Thank you for the reply. Your unit may pull less than the rated wattage when your dimmer (potentiometer) is connected. The dimmer can act as a resistor when inline - which is one of the reasons we designed the light with a quick disconnect on the dimmer harness. That way, in the event of a dimmer your light will still be 100% functional.

Additionally, when not in use, if you disconnect the dimmer you will get closer to 210-225 watts as Meanwell traditionally run 10% over rated output.

This is good to know. I did the math and went off of meanwells specs for that driver and 4@1400 was just barely over.
