Identifying problem with dead branches

Hey guys, I am having trouble with a few plants in my garden. They are outdoors in a greenhouse and I'm getting a few branches here and there dying. When I look at the branch there is a weird dead/rotted/chewed part right at the base where the branch hits the main stem. These branches end up dying and I have to cut them off. I am trying to determine if this is an insect problem, and if so what insect would do something like this? Let me know if you need any other information to help me diagnose this issue, I'll try to take some pictures next time I find one of these branches.

Thanks everyone! And enjoy your day!

possibly earwigs? they come out at night and hide during the day in cool places, such as on the ground under a planting pot or under a piece of wood.

A really good treatment I like is sluggo plus, it's a spinosad laced noodle that is dehydrated. instructions say to put down around the radius of the grow area ( not in it) in the evening after a rain when it wont rain for a few days. they will regain moisture and the earwigs come and eat them. The spinosad is systemic and will kill them and not allow them to breed anymore , and fixes the problem temporarily. Cool cause it keeps away slugs and other wierd insects, and you sprinkle it every few weeks
