I've been reading on other sites that the required lumens per sqft is 2000-3000. Is that true?

If so I have way too many lumens on my plants

your going to lose lumens through the distance you have between your lamp & plants so if its 50000 lumens at 6" away at 15" away its only about 10000 dose this make sense
2000 lumens is fine for out side grows the plant is getting more from the sun than a bulb

I have a 400 watt hps in a 32"x32"x5'3 grow space. Thats ~45 lumens per square feet if the light is hung at the top.

I have a cool-tube and lowered it though 2 Feet away from the 12 day old seedlings. 75F..

Im not sure I get what im saying

that lamp should be fine it should cover 4'x4' get 4plants in there and they will be happy with the amount of light they recieve dont get too caught up with lumens heat is the problem in most cases but you have cool tube you have no worries

2 foot away from seedlings is right on. once they harden off i would say get it around 10-12 inches away from the plants. i have a 600w hps running right now and i have it 20 inches above my seedlings and once they harden off i usually run it about one foot above the tops of my plants with no problems. i just wait until my plants at least have a couple sets of leaves or three internodes. peace.

Cool, thanks people..

They're forming the 3rd internodes right not... this is my first grow..not sure if I should LST/Top those bad boys?

Thanks for the advice thugh

LST will work well once you hit 4-5 internodes. make sure you do it while your plants are still vegging. it will take longer for your plants to finish if you LST in flower, IMO. ive LST'd in flower before and they did still flower but it did take about a week longer to finish up. hopefully those plants are girls for ya, peace.
