ok, i got ten feminized seeds to grow, does feminized mean theyre all females or will i haveto findout who is not?
the guy we bought the growtent from said that we shouldnt the first period keep them in the strong light that he sold us, so ive been keeping it in some kindof plastic growhouse in the window. wich has resulted in some of them looking very weak.

this is what they look like now, would they be able to go in under the 400W HPS lamp i have and how long should the distance be between the lamp and the plants?
thanks

...fem seeds have a slight possiblility to be hermies, you should never get a male from fem seeds. Watch for the cross gender. I'd keep the 400 around 3 feet away from the young ones.

Fem seeds are likely to be female but there's no real way to guarantee and hermies are possible particularly if the source isn't too reliable. You don't need that much light yet, I would preserve my bulb(s) and electricity and use something else for now. You could go with flourescent for the seedlings, they're cheap and they promote root growth; particularly bright flourescents (100watts plus) would have to be about 4-6 inhes away from the plants to produce around 10k lumens. HPS is really best for flow stage while metal halide is good for veg but can be used throughout the grow. If you must use the HPS: a 400w bulb will produce 10,000 lumens at 2 1/4 feet. At 3 ft you'll get about 5500 lumens which is acceptable but not ideal, it might cause them to stretch towards the light and end up lanky. good luck
