I'm new, any tips from some veterans?

I know you veteran marijuana farmers would love to share a few tips with me on the art of growing, right? :p

I suppose I should leave a few questions here while I look around.

1. What is your favorite place to purchase seeds?
2. What is your favorite seed?
3. How long does a harvest usually take. (if you refer me a specific seed please tell me that harvest time)
4. What seed do you recommend I use for my first grow?(I'll probably be growing outdoors for the first. Unless that's not recommended.)

3.The Afgan Ryder Kush took 71 days from germination. The Vanilla Kush I vegged for 4 weeks then flowered for 9.l

keep hanging around this site and you'll pick up a lot of knowledge. still a few egg heads hear and there but mostly lot's of good growers and some real pros. GL

Wow only 71 days? I definitely thought growing took a hell of a lot more time. Also, Attitude doesn't sell the Afgan Ryder Kush seeds :/ Any other recommendations for my first grow?

Use soil, I use Fox Farms Ocean Forest and Grow Big, Tiger Bloom and Big Bloom for nutes. And I use CFL's but that's up to you if you can vent the heat then a 400 watt HPS.Good luclk Happy growing and may all of your harvests be bountiful.

check out Jorge cervantes ultimate grow DVD part 1/3 on youtube. A lot of good basic growing knowledge to get ya started. Its a long watch but plenty of good info in there. Go with soil for sure as its a little easier for noobs and as someone already mentioned more forgiving. Read read read and good luck... always some helpful people on here willing to lend ya some advice.

Do you recommend I mix the FFOA and FFGB half and half, 70/30, or what?

don't buy seeds, use some from your favorites IMO. Less is sometimes more when it comes to nutes, especially when theyre young, patience is your best friend

I like to buy my seeds from Attitude. Seedbay is also pretty good for rare seeds that you can't find anywhere else. As far as what seeds to get, well that really depends on your tastes and your region. I always like to get a few different strains that harvest at different times. Usually an early flowering indica, a hybrid, and then a pure sativa. This way I harvest in September, October, and November. There isn't any that I grow over and over again either. This is because there are so many amazing strains out there that every year I grow something new. This year I've fallen in love with OG #18. Next year I plan on growing Subcool's Vortex since I still have a dozen seeds left over. If budget allows I might even grow some strains from Tom Hill.

Since your going outdoors, first find out about your zone and frost dates. Once you know when to start, think about building a raised bed. Don't mess with the cannabis specific nutrients. Most of them are designed for hydroponics and not for soil grow. While you can use them in soil, they actually leach a lot (meaning they wash away after a rain or light watering) so you'll constantly be needing to adjust your feeding amounts and wasting a lot of money in the process. Instead, go with organic slow releasing (dry) organic fertilizers, but only if your plants actually show signs of needing them.

If you build a big enough raised bed, like say 3'x3'x6" per plant, then you really shouldn't have to fertilize at all. While I agree that Fox Farm and Roots Organics make some really good soil, at $18 and $30 a bag, it's not worth it. Especially when growing outdoors. You can get similar results from a $4 bag of organic potting soil just by shopping smart. The trick is to read the ingredients look for a potting soil made from a wide variety of manures and compost blends. If in doubt, just buy a few different brands and mix it together. You will literally go from spending a few hundred dollars to $20-$40s and it will be just as potent and high yielding.
