Make it past the freshmen courses in any college economics curriculum and you will surely find that what I am saying is a fact. Taxes don't fund federal spending. Taxes give the dollar its value and keep aggregate demand under control. The purpose of fiscal policy is maintaining strong currency.
When an ignorant person gives you a dirty look at the grocery store because you pay with EBT, they think it is because you are the reason they have $0.12 less that year but they are wrong and they literally hate you just because you're poor, because they hate poverty, because irrational fear and hatred likely has very much to do with recognizing the qualities one hates about themselves. They've been misled and if they understood things a little bit better, they would hug you in solidarity, but they don't know better. Your EBT does not come from taxes and you need to spend it or their farm job might be in jeopardy.
The brilliant New Deal economist and social scientist Beardsley Ruml, who helped to design the policies that pulled the US out of the Great Depression caused by ignorant and greedy rich people who managed to brainwash more than one generation of bigots into ruining the economy with austerity, wrote a lot on the subject. He also helped design the ASVAB tests for the military.

Also, the debt doesn't fucking matter. Do I hate myself for admitting Cheney was right? No, he is an evil genius who was wrong about plenty of other things and made a fortune on his Haliburton stock. China is not buying the US, they are making wise investments. For one thing, they're forcing a trade surplus, which is absolutely essential, since they're the world's biggest manufacturer of everything and we're the world's consumer nation. This is not indicative of them buying us, we have literally bought them and it is a neat arrangement for both.
Go back to New Deal policies or your empire will crumble. Not that I have a great love for the empire. In other words, only welfare policies will Make America Great Again.
